    Police and ambulance crews involved in the armed siege at a Nuneaton bowling alley have been praised in the House of Commons.

    A suspected gunman was arrested following a four-hour stand-off at MFA Bowl in Bermuda Park at the weekend.

    North Warwickshire MP Craig Tracey raised the incident during Prime Minister's Questions, calling on Theresa May to join him in praising those who helped bring the situation to a swift conclusion.

    Cheshire Police say they were called just after midnight to West Street in Crewe to reports of an injured man.

    Ironbridge power station has been identified by Shropshire Council as one of the places where homes could be built in the future.

    It is included in the recently published draft version of the council's local development plan, external, which sets out how 28,750 homes could be built in the county between now and 2036.

    The plan says there are a number of "known, mixed use, brownfield opportunities", including the power station site and the Clive Barracks at Tern Hill, near Market Drayton.

    The document also says there are "ongoing discussions with the site owners in order to secure their appropriate redevelopment".

    The power station stopped generating electricity in November 2015 and its owners, Uniper, put the 141-hectare site on the market in February, saying it was suitable for residential use., external

    Plans for the future of Evesham Community Hospital will be discussed at a meeting in the town tonight.

    People will have the chance to question health bosses about the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership.

    Three teenagers were hurt when two cars were involved in a crash, causing one vehicle to overturn.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Saltwells Road in Dudley just after 23:45 on Tuesday.

    A teenage girl was treated for serious chest, pelvic, arm and abdominal injuries and was taken to hospital.

    A second teenage girl suffered a suspected wrist fracture and a shoulder injury and was also taken hospital.

    A teenage boy was treated for shoulder and knee injuries.

    An "altercation" between players at Rugby Town and Coventry Copsewood FC led to the game being abandoned.

    It happened after a late tackle on Rugby's Ben Ashby - Rugby were 1-0 up at the time.

    The referee sent two players off and booked a third, before calling the match off.

    In a statement, external, Rugby Town says it won't be commenting further until it receives reports from the referee and the Midland Football League.

    The Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police has told MPs his force is over-stretched and having to juggle its resources.

    Gareth Morgan was one of a number of senior police officers appearing before the Home Affairs Select Committee, external, to give evidence about the effect of budget cuts.

    Chief Constable Morgan said the biggest challenge was "the changing nature of crime demand" and "the serious and complex nature of it".

    He told the committee he would try to avoid cutting workforce numbers, but questioned whether he had "the resource available to match that demand in order to effectively investigate crime”.

    Frank Bird from Highways England has told BBC WM traffic is now moving on the M6 but is very slow.

    Two of the four lanes are still closed while they wait for recovery vehicles to get to the scene.

    Mr Bird said he will do his "level best" to have a third lane open by 12:30.

    A Shropshire woman who was facing deportation has been released by immigration officials and is being allowed back home, a migrant charity says.

    Paulette Wilson from Wellington came to the UK from Jamaica in 1968, but had been told she would have to leave.

    The Refugee and Migrant Centre, based in Wolverhampton, says it is still waiting to hear the reason for her release.

    People in Bedworth say gangs of children riding bikes around the town centre are putting people off from visiting.

    Locals told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire they feel threatened by groups of young people doing wheelies and riding aggressively near shoppers.

    In a statement, the borough council says it is "working closely with the police in an effort to identify the riders of a large number of push bikes in Bedworth Town Centre".

    Wolverhampton City Council says it definitely doesn't have a "soft touch" approach when it comes to dishing out taxi licences.

    A freedom of information request revealed that the local authority made £1.3m by giving out 3,000 taxi licences out this year, compared with 600 five years ago.

    Critics suggest the short time it takes to complete a licence application in Wolverhampton compared with other cities means profits are being put above public safety.

  18. Mitchell Arts Centre turns 60published at 10:51 British Summer Time 25 October 2017

    One of Stoke-on-Trent's most famous community venues celebrates its 60th birthday today.

    The Mitchell Arts Centre, formerly the Mitchell Memorial Theatre, was opened in 1957 as a tribute to the Spitfire creator, Reginald Mitchell.
