    A 53-year-old man has appeared before magistrates to faces charges relating to a bowling alley siege at the weekend.

    David Clarke from Ryde Avenue, Nuneaton, faces two counts of false imprisonment, one of criminal damage, two of possessing bladed weapons, one of carrying an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and two of possessing an imitation firearm with the intent to cause false imprisonment.

    He was remanded in custody by magistrates at Leamington Spa to face another hearing on 21 November.

    He was arrested on Sunday after an incident in MFA Bowl in St David's Way, Bermuda Park, Nuneaton.

    A woman who was found dead in her home in Cannock earlier this year died from natural causes, say police.

    Kerry Cast's death was treated as "unexplained" by police after the 40-year-old's body was discovered at her home in Herondale on 1 July, after she recently moved back to the area.

    It may still be October but one family couldn't wait any longer to put up their Christmas decorations.

    Their house in Barnes Close, Stirchley, Birmingham, has a Santa Claus sitting proudly on the driveway.

    John and Jean Copestick say they do it "because they love Christmas".

    The decorations have already been up for four weeks and surround the house inside and out.

    Jean says: "If it was up to me, I'd have the decorations up all year round."

    A hurdler from Statford, a Bridgnorth high jumper and a runner from Worcester are also included in England's 75-strong Commonweath Games squad.

    It will be the first time 25-year-old Andrew Pozzi has been selected for the games - he specialises in the 110 metre hurdles.

    Telford Tigers' match against Blackburn Hawks at the weekend has been awarded to the opposition, because of a rules violation.

    The Tigers won the match 8-2, but have been punished for not having a non-playing coach sitting on the bench.

    It means the game will be recorded as a 5-0 win to Blackburn and the Tigers winning run in the National League has come to an end.

    A "barbaric" couple who forced a child to sleep in a "damp and cold" outhouse have been jailed.

    The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was forced to eat from bins and take food from strangers.

    Conditions in the outhouse caused the youngster to develop trench foot - a condition seen in WW1 soldiers.

    The couple, who previously admitted child cruelty, were each sentenced to four years and three months in prison on Monday.

    A 19-year-old man is in hospital in a serious but stable condition, following an incident in Coventry city centre.

    West Midlands Police are investigating after he was found with serious head injuries in Trinity Street just after 03:00.

    Parking charges at hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford aren't going up to make money, the NHS trust running them has said.

    The cost of a stay of over five hours is set to more than double next week, from £3.50 to £8, with shorter stays also becoming more expensive.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says it is making the move because the car parks can become full at times and it wants to encourage people to find alternatives to long-term stays.

    It said it had done everything it could to increase the number of spaces, but there is no more room for expansion.

    The Firs industrial estate in Kidderminster is returning to normal after last night's fire, with the fire service scaling back its operation there.

    The road through the estate is now open to traffic again and people are no longer being advised to stay indoors with their doors and windows shut.

    Stone masons could be brought in to repair a 250-year-old tomb in Bridgnorth.

    The rector of St Mary's church, Simon Cawdell, said not much is known about the Jones family buried in the Georgian box tomb in St Mary's churchyard, but it dates back to the 1760s.

    A man has been found unconscious in the centre of Coventry.

    West Midlands Ambulance said it was called to Trinity Street just before 03:00, after reports of the man, in his 20s, being found near the Big Bamboo nightclub.

    He's being treated for chest and head injuries.

    Part of the street is cordoned off and there is a heavy police presence.

    A man who stabbed a university lecturer to death and injured another man during "random" early morning attack, is expected to be sentenced later.

    Mark Loveridge, 39, has admitted the manslaughter of 30-year-old Daniel Young by diminished responsibility, but denied his murder.

    Mr Young was attacked near Morden Tube station in south London as he made his way to work on January 19, 2016.

    It was his second day of a new job as a teaching fellow in tourism and hospitality at Coventry University London Campus.
