    A worker was left suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder and said his family's life had been "flipped upside down" after his leg was crushed in an industrial vice at a firm based in Rugby.

    Acenta Steel Ltd has been fined £400,000 for health and safety failings.

    The Comapany admitted that safety guards fitted to a band saw had been removed from a machine at their distribution centre in Paynes Lane, as well as failing to carry out an adequate risk assessment.

    At a sentencing hearing at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 18 October the company was also ordered to pay £10,695 costs.

    A "stupidly nosy" midwife, who looked up confidential medical records of friends and neighbours whilst working at University Hospital in Coventry, has been struck-off.

    A panel of the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) conduct and competence committee heard , externalthat Vicky Bloxham, from Leicester, looked at the records over many years.

    Her behaviour came to light after a patient complained Mrs Bloxham had passed on information from her medical records to another person.

    Mrs Bloxham said her actions "were completely inquisitive and were never spread to anyone else but myself...pure snoopiness and being stupidly nosey".

    A spokesperson for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust said: "The midwife concerned has not worked for the Trust in over a year.

    As soon as these allegations came to light, we launched an immediate investigation and referred this individual to the NMC."

    Richard Branson has announced that Virgin is withdrawing its sponsorship from the annual V Festival.

    The Virgin boss tweeted that after 22 years, 2017 was its last event.

    The two day festival is held across two sites - Weston Park in Staffordshire and Hylands Park in Chelmsford.

    A who carried out an unprovoked attack on a complete stranger at a rail station has been jailed for eight weeks.

    Miguel Steward, 26, of Bordesley Green, Birmingham, admitted assault by beating after the incident on 2 September at New Street station.

    The victim, a 68-year-old man was walking through the station when Steward launched himself at him and assaulted him.

    Steward was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Friday 20 October.

    A 20-year-old Stoke-on-Trent man has been charged with assaulting a police officer following a protest in the city on Saturday.

    Disorder broke out between demonstrators at a so-called "anti grooming rally" and counter protesters on Waterloo Road in Burslem.

    An officer was also injured in a seperate incident, when a police vehicle ran over her foot. She's said to be recovering at home.

    Officers say further arrests could be made in connection with the incident, as they review footage.

    Jake Coates and his wife Emmy, who had cancer, spent six months on a 2,000 km (1,243 miles) tandem bike ride from London to Copenhagen, external, raising money for the hospital in London that treated her.

    Jake's been chosen as London Fundraiser of the Year at the awards, after the couple raised more than £140,000.

    Emmy, from Herefordshire, died from cancer this summer.

    Visitors to Dudley Zoo are being asked to join in a special celebration for a very special resident.

    Orangutang Benji, who's lived at the zoo for 21 years, will be celebrating his 40th birthday on Monday 6 November.

    This weekend staff will also be holding a fund-raising event to help build a new separate outdoor enclosure for the four Bornean orangutans at the zoo.

    More than £2m has been raised by a heritage railway to create more room for visitors and a locomotive turntable.

    Severn Valley Railway launched a share offer last year and says people have 24-hours left to buy shares and raise £2.5m , external

    The money will be used to build a new refreshment room and toilet building, as well as funding much-needed repairs to existing buildings at Bridgnorth railway station.

    The railway line is ran by an army of 1,700 volunteers which spans 16 miles across Kidderminster in Worcestershire to Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

    An investigation has been launched after a woman reported she was threatened with a knife in Birmingham city centre this morning.

    The victim was walking to a hotel down Hill Street at around 03:00 when she was grabbed and threatened, before managing to get away uninjured, police say.

    A complaint has been made about the behaviour of Coventry City fans who visited Luton Town for the club's 3-0 win on Saturday.

    One female Muslim fan told the BBC she was called a "terrorist" by a group of fans in a car on her way into the ground.

    "He said 'oh there's a terrorist'.

    "I don't know what happened after that, he just drove off.

    "I've been brought up in Luton and we're multi-faith and multicultural, so I'm quite shocked actually because I've never experienced that in Luton."

    Bedfordshire Police said a complaint has not formally been made to them.

    A 17-year-old, arrested after a crash in which a 17-year-old died, has been released on bail.

    The 17-year-old passenger in a VW Golf car, died at the scene of the crash on Church Road, Yardley on Thursday, police said.

    A second 17-year-old was taken to hospital where he is in a serious condition.

    The crash involved a car suspected of failing to stop for police and a lorry.

    Police have raided more than 20 addresses across Birmingham and the Black Country in an operation aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour by motorbike riders.
