    All the residents of Barlaston who lost their water supply last night should now have it back, Severn Trent Water says., external

    About 300 people were still without water this morning but the firm says it has now repaired two burst pipes that cut off supplies.

    As a result, Severn Trent says everything "should be back to normal" by 13:00.

  4. Staffordshire Police increases call centre staffpublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    The Deputy Chief Constable for Staffordshire Police said the force had invested in more staff in its call centre after an inspection found some emergency calls had been abandoned or took too long to answer.

    Det Ch Con Nick Baker said: "As part of this inspection, HMICFRS said we needed to improve in 'planning for the future'.

    "They commented that a small proportion of calls are either abandoned or take too long to answer.

    "To address this we have invested in our contact centre and recruited more staff to ensure we answer non-emergency calls in a timely way."

    The force was rated "good" overall.

    A Shropshire school has come out of special measures, external after an inspection found pupils now "feel safe".

    When William Brookes School in Much Wenlock was previously inspected by Ofsted, the education watchdog found staff didn't understand how to keep pupils safe.

    At the time, it was rated as "inadequate" - the school promised an action plan was in place to tackle the concerns.

    Last month, Ofsted carried out a two-day inspection and rated the school as, external "good", saying all pupils they spoke to said they felt safe and the school now has "effective" safeguarding measures.

  6. Arrests after police officers hit by carpublished at 11:56 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Four people have been arrested after two police officers were injured in a hit-and-run crash in Wolverhampton at the weekend.

    A female police officer was treated in hospital for leg injuries and a male officer suffered minor injuries - the force said both are now recovering at home.

    A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and wounding and a 44-year-old man and two women, aged 42 and 48, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    They are all currently in police custody.

    An Egyptian-born baker living in Birmingham has won an award for his flatbread.

    Khaled Galal, from Moseley, makes sourdough Egyptian flatbread by hand to an ancient Egyptian recipe - a practice which has almost died out in his home country.

    He and his wife recently won two World Bread Awards in recognition of their achievements.

    An 18-year-old woman has denied preparing for a terrorist act by attempting to travel to Syria.

    Sandeep Samra is alleged to have applied for a passport, sought advice on getting to the war-torn country and tried to secure false travel documents in a bid to get to the Middle East.

    Ms Samra, from Alder Road, Alderman's Green, Coventry, was arrested earlier this year in a pre-planned operation by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

    She was then charged with being engaged in conduct in the preparation of terrorism.

    At Birmingham Crown Court this morning, Ms Samra, entered a not guilty plea.

    She was remanded in custody and will face a trial in January.

    Worcestershire's specialist breast cancer unit is being officially opened by the Countess of Wessex today.

    The Worcestershire Breast Unit , external opened to patients last year after a campaign to raise £1.8m.

    Officials there say it's already helped more than 200 women with the disease - it provides specialist support, advice and therapies.

    Tributes have been paid to a "wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather" who died in a crash last month.

    Raymond Ridgley, 88, from Edgbaston, was hit by a car on Metchley Lane, Edgbaston, on 25 October.

    He was taken to hospital but died four days later.

    Kyle Peacock, who has autism, was hit in the face by a sharpened coin thrown by a supporter.

    The incident put Kyle - an Everton fan - off going to a game for several years.

    A crowdfunding page has been set up to treat Kyle to a day out when Everton next play Stoke in March.
