The leader of the Labour group on the authority, councillor Peter McDonald, suggested they were leaving because the council was "in trouble".

    Quote Message

The controlling group pulled in these people from the private sector, who said they had a magic wand [and] we would do things the way they do it in the private sector. And of course it hasn't happened, there's no magic wand, we're in trouble and they're jumping ship."

The second phase of the council-run scheme is now being rolled out.

    Carol McMillan

"There's money left at the end of the month," said Mrs McMillan.

"We were renting a property at £450 a month. The payback on the £30,000 grant on this house is £298 so straight away we were £150 better off."

The council says it is much more useful than relying on people's "noise diaries".

    Quote Message

(We) play some recordings back to the noise-maker if needed and it helps them to understand the problems they are causing, and in some cases that has helped to remedy the problem informally."
