Read MoreAn American breed of heron found underweight and emaciated in Shrewsbury has been taken in by an animal sanctuary over concerns for its welfare.
The bird, named Noddy, a familiar site around The Dingle in Shrewsbury’s Quarry park, is with Cuan Wildlife Rescue in Much Wenlock.
Staff said visitors to the site had become worried about Noddy's condition and asked them to take a look.
Quote MessageHe is about 100g underweight, for a bird that is quite a lot. The people from Rare Bird Alert have been in contact and confirmed it is an American black crowned night heron, so it has clearly not flown here. It is possible and likely that it has escaped from somewhere.”

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says it has introduced a number of safety measures, following the death of five elderly patients, who died after falls at the two hospitals.
And although it admitted a charge of breaching the Health and Safety at Work act, the NHS trust said expert evidence suggested the falls may have been unavoidable.
Simon Wright, trust chief executive (pictured above), said the number of falls resulting in serious harm had been falling, but offered his "sincerest condolences to the families of these patients."
Quote MessageIn the five years since these sad cases occurred we have made great improvements in reducing falls. In 2015-16 we reduced the number of falls resulting in serious harm – those which lead to fractured hips – by around a third. Our staff are working tirelessly to reduce the number of falls even further.”
Simon Wright, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust chief executive
A hospital trust has been fined following the deaths of five elderly patients, each of whom died after a fall.
The Health and Safety Executive, which brought the prosecutions, said four patients died while being treated at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. The fifth died following a fall at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust was fined £333,333 at Stafford Crown Court and was also ordered to repay £130,000 in costs.
The five, who were aged between 72 and 92, died between June 2011 and November 2012.
The HSE said fall prevention measures had not been properly applied and there was poor communication at the hospitals.
The trust had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act in relation to the five deaths.
Quote MessageIn different ways, these patients were left exposed to the risk of falling which resulted in their deaths. It is right for the Trust to have been held to account for those failings in the Court today.”
Vince Joyce, Health and Safety Executive

The Grade II listed bridge has been left seriously damaged after the lorry struck it this morning, causing an estimated £50,000 of damage.
Shropshire Council says one of the parapets on the bridge has been completely demolished and it won't be repaired until spring.
