    There's a call for councils in the Black Country and Shropshire to intervene to stop the removal of public phone boxes.

    In the area, 137 boxes are on a list of 20,000 across the country which BT plans to remove as mobile phone use becomes more common.

    The Liberal Democrats are calling on local authorities to make use of Ofcom rules which state BT must inform the public and consult with local authorities, who can object within 90 days.

    Previously, BT has said the removal of payphones is carried out "in strict adherence to Ofcom guidelines and, where appropriate, with the consent of local authorities".

    The 27-year-old is to undergo surgery next month.

    A firm in Evesham has today launched a brand new technology to help recover fingerprints.

    Foster and Freeman, which is based at Vale Park in the town, has developed a chemical which can recover fingerprints from surfaces that might have been tampered with or damaged.

    Forensics experts have told BBC Hereford and Worcester it'll be "phenomenal" for forensic science and will make finding fingerprints easier on materials at crime scenes or warzones.

    The Ministry of Defence says the technology could help identify people behind bombings and armed attacks as it allows prints to be found on bomb components and fired ammunition cases.

    Environmentalists are questioning the need to complete Shrewsbury's ring-road.

    Friends of the Earth is worried that the North West Relief Road, external could end up costing far more than the current estimate of about £100m. It says similar schemes in Rugby, Norwich and Wakesfield went "over-budget".

    According to Cheshire Police, the 44-year-old pedestrian was on Mountbatten Way on Friday evening when the collision happened involving a Volkswagen.

    Officers say he suffered serious injuries and died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

    A £13.7m sports facility has opened in Bromsgrove this morning.

    Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre, external, which is on School Drive, features a climbing wall, swimming pool, gym and spa.

    It replaces the town's Dolphin Centre, which was built in the 1960s, and is part of a £100m regeneration project for the town .

    Work's under way to plant more trees at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

    The site in Alrewas, which is already home to 30,000 trees, is stepping up its tree planting at the venue as part of a master plan to develop the area.

    A body found in woodland is believed to be a man who went missing from his home last month.

    The family of Matthew Gill, 43, launched an appeal to find the man on social media using #FindLiggy, external after he disappeared on 6 October from his home in Stourbridge.

    Last night, his family said they were "heartbroken" after police said a body was found, external close to Prestwood Drive which is believed to be Matthew, although formal identification has yet to take place.

    Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

    Staffordshire Police says two men wearing bandanas around their faces went into Costcutters in Northwood last night and demanded the woman behind the counter hand over cash and cigarettes.

    The force says they ran off with about £400, three bags of tobacco and seven packets of cigarettes. Officers have released CCTV photos of the pair.

    The leader of Birmingham City Council says there will be an inquiry into the bin strikes which took place over the summer and that "lessons will be learned".

    The row started in June when the Unite union claimed the council's bid to "modernise" the service and save £5m a year threatened more than 100 jobs, and resulted in a three-month strike by refuse collectors.

    A deal was struck with the Unite union over the weekend to end industrial action.
