    A heron's been taken to a wildlife sanctuary after people in Shrewsbury had raised concerns about its welfare.

    The Night Heron at the Dingle park's been regularly photographed, but several people on Twitter said they were worried about it.

    On the social media site, @JacquiGriffiths said, external "he's starving to death" while @mrs_pooka, external said he was "looking very poorly".

    Now, Shrewsbury Town Council says the bird's been taken to the sanctuary, external to be looked after "before a decision is made on its future".

    Pressure's being put on Highways England for promises over when the latest work on the M5 in Worcestershire will be completed.

    Highways England has already carried out work at junctions 5 and 7 and is now turning its attention to junction 6, where it'll be widening the roundabout and slip roads.

    It says the work could continue until the end of 2018 but Worcestershire County Council says it wants more specific guarantees.

    Highways England says the work is needed to cut congestion and reduce journey times and anyone with concerns can go to an information event in the coming weeks.

    A man's appeared in court charged with firearms offences, after reports of firing shots inside a Coventry shop on Saturday night.

    A 38-year-old man was charged with possession of an imitation firearm, assault and criminal damage.

    Officers say a shopkeeper on Heathcote Street, Radford reported a dispute, after he told two men the shop that it closing at about 23:00.

    The man is due to appear at Warwick Crown Court next month.

    People in Cheshire have handed in 104 guns to Cheshire Police during a two-week gun surrender.

    The force says most were air rifles and 26 of the guns and ammunition were surrendered in the Crewe area.

    It says all the weapons will be checked to make sure they haven't been used in offences before being "deactivated and destroyed".

    Police have released CCTV footage of thieves stealing a car in Solihull in just one minute, without even using a key.

    West Midlands Police believe, external it is the first time a "relay device" used to steal a vehicle has been captured on video.

    The device receives a signal from the victim's key inside their home - a man can be seen holding the box to the front door while the other is trying to open the doors, as the car thinks a key is near.

    The Mercedes car which was stolen in September still hasn't been recovered.

    Police are advising drivers to use "Thatcham-approved steering locks and trackers" after a steep rise in thefts over the past three years in the West Midlands.

    A tawny owl which had a "remarkable" escape after getting stuck inside a wood burner, external could be released back into the wild this evening.

    Last week, the RSPCA said officers were called to a house in Criftins, Ellesmere, and found the bird "completely trapped" inside the burner's flue.

    Despite a tricky rescue and being completely covered in black soot, he wasn't seriously hurt.

    Today, the charity says the owl's been doing well at a wildlife centre and staff are hoping to released him today.
