    An amber weather warning for heavy snow for much of the West Midlands, external has been issued by the Met Office.

    It says it's been issued from 04:00 till 18:00 on Sunday.

    The Met Office says transport delays are likely along with cancellations and says there's a "good chance" of some rural areas getting cut off.

    The number of schools fully closed in Worcestershire has risen to 40 this morning because of the snow and icy weather., external

    On the county council's website, they report in some cases cars stuck on roads around schools and, in one case, staff having accidents on the way in.

    Elsewhere, in Shropshire there are 28 schools closed while Stoke-on-Trent has eight, external and the rest of Staffordshire five., externalThere are more than 50 shut in Sandwell and 45 in Birmingham, taking the total to about 180.

    There has been a series of accidents on the region's motorways this morning.

    Collisions near Bromsgrove, Halesowen and West Bromwich are causing delays on the M5 at the moment and traffic is moving slowly on other motorways because of the snow and the icy road conditions.

    The number of school closures has risen sharply in Shropshire as the snow continues to fall.

    By 09:45 this morning we'd been told of 10 which are shut today:

    • William Brookes Secondary, Much Wenlock
    • Beckbury Primary
    • Weston Lullingfields Primary
    • Access School near Harmer Hill
    • Broseley Primary School
    • Southall School, Telford.
    • Rushbury primary school
    • Haughton School, Madeley
    • Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge CE Primary School
    • Claverley Primary School will close at 11:00

    Additional school closures are being added by Shropshire Council via its Twitter feed, external and on Telford and Wrekin Council's website, external.

    There have been a number of minor accidents on the roads around Shropshire this morning, but both Telford and Wrekin Council and Shropshire Council say all the main roads have been gritted.

    Telford and Wrekin Council said its lorries had been out at 23:00 yesterday and 04:00 today and were going out a third time this morning.

    We've just been told that Dudley Zoo is closed, external today due to the cold weather conditions today.

    We've seen more than 50 schools close across the area, you can stay up to date with online.

    We're hearing of quite a few more school closures now across the West Midlands - more than 50 in Sandwell alone.

    Most schools contact parents direct via an app or text if there's a closure, but some councils also publish lists online.

    There are the council lists we're aware of:

    Two roads were shut in the Staffordshire Peak District were closed early this morning, but have since reopened. Drivers on the A537 have been warned to take care.

    We've also heard of hazardous conditions on other roads across the region, including the M54.

    There are 11 schools listed as closed by councils across Staffordshire and Shropshire this morning.

    The most are in Stoke-on-Trent , externalwhere the city council says six are shut.

    There are four said to be closed by Staffordshire County Council,, external mostly in the south of the county, and one shut according to Telford and Wrekin Council., external

    Shropshire Council, external, Worcestershire County Council, external and Herefordshire Council , externaldidn't have any shut due to the weather on their websites as of 09:15.

  17. School shut due to norovirus outbreakpublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2017

    A school in Warwickshire has been shut due to a norovirus outbreak.

    Education bosses say St Matthew's Bloxam C of E Primary School is fully closed to pupils and is being deep cleaned.

    It is not clear as yet how many pupils contracted the virus.

    Walsall Manor Hospital has shut three of its wards after some patients were diagnosed with norovirus.

    Hospital bosses say the wards have been closed to keep the patients under quarantine, but haven't revealed how many patients are confirmed to have the virus.

  19. Snow and slush causing 'dangerous' conditions on roadspublished at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2017

    We might not yet have the 20cm of snow forecast for some parts of the Midlands last night, but the roads are proving hazardous in areas, whether it's snow or slush.

    One driver on the M54 outside Telford town centre said he had seen cars' wheels spinning on the melted snow and described the conditions as "very dangerous".

    Drivers have also reported some hazardous conditions in Brierley Hill.

    Highways England is warning drivers to take extra care this morning and make sure they're well equipped if driving any distance, external.
