    Drivers are being advised by Worcestershire County Council to leave extra time this morning for their journeys.

    There are eight flood warnings in Warrington, and nine flood alerts in Lancashire, the Environment Agency says.

    Blackpool's tramway system has reopened after powerlines were brought down. Delays are expected to continue for a short time.

    The Met Office is warning winds of up to 60mph will continue to pose a danger to life because of flying debris.

    In Cheshire, there has been flooding in Hillfoot Lane, in Frodsham, a tree has fallen in Grange Lane, Whitegate and Alderley Road in Wilmslow is also partially blocked due to fallen tree.

    Almost 900 homes and businesses in the West Midlands are thought to be without electricity now after engineers worked through the night to restore power to many of those affected by Storm Eleanor.

    High winds brought down dozens of trees.

    Western Power Distribution said it hoped to restore supplies to many of the remaining homes by 11:00

    At its height, 2,000 properties in the region were affected overnight.

    West Midlands Fire Service reported one down in Hay Mills , externalwhile Staffordshire Police said there was one down near Cheddleton on the A520., external

    West Midlands Railway warned of some disruption to Cross City services due to a tree on the line near Lichfield , externalthat had to be moved.

  8. Lanes open after overturned lorry clearedpublished at 07:59 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018

    All lanes have reopened on the M5 northbound J5-6 after an HGV overturned in a crash.

    The carriageway near Droitwich was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to right the vehicle and clean up its spilt load.

    It was the second lorry to overturn on the M5 overnight, but it's unclear if the weather played a part.

    There's a full flood warning in place this morning on the River Severn, external just south of our area with the Environment Agency predicting a tide level of four metres on parts of it.

    The flood gates in New Street in Upton-upon-Severn were also closed last night (pictured).

    Storm Eleanor's also led to the agency issuing several lesser flood alerts for other parts of the region, external including in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire.

    More than 300 homes and businesses are without power in Worcestershire this morning , externalas Storm Eleanor sweeps across the region.

    In Alvechurch, 128 have had their power cut with another 108 in the Upper Bentley area, near Redditch.

    Other affected areas include Shrawley, near Kidderminster, and Tenbury Wells.

    Western Power Distribution says it's working to get them all reconnected by around 10:30.

    The Met Office says it covers the whole of the West Midlands and could see public transport disrupted or cancelled at times.

    It also says people should be prepared for power cuts and other disruption with people being warned that there could be flying debris.

    West Midlands Fire Service says a 60ft marquee took flight in Solihull last night , externalwhile Worcestershire County Council says a bus shelter was blown on to the B4196 Astley Cross near Stourport. , external

    West Mercia Police says there have been several trees brought down in Shropshire and Worcestershire. , external

    In one case in Worcestershire, the force said a tree had come down and hurt a member of the public, external, although they haven't revealed their injuries.

    Plans to take over Crewe's university campus when it closes next year have moved a step closer.

    Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is pulling out of its Crewe Green Road site in the summer of 2019.

    Initial terms have now been agreed to turn it into a medical sciences education centre, offering courses including biomedical science and podiatry.

    The agreement isn't yet legally binding but MMU says it is a "roadmap" for future discussions.
