    Drivers around the West Midlands are being advised to take caution after snow and rain over night.

    West Mercia Police is advising motorists in snow-hit areas to only travel if necessary and allow extra time for journeys.

    Highways England warned that melting snow, running on to the road as water, could also pose a hazard.

  2. Railway thanks public for support after vandalismpublished at 08:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2017

    The Severn Valley Railway says it's grateful for the support it's received after two of its carriages were vandalised at its Kiddeminster station over Christmas.

    It's also encouraging people to make donations, external to help with the cleaning costs.

    It said the affected carriages would be removed from service until the graffiti was removed.

    Thousands of properties in the West Midlands have been affected by power cuts, Western Power says.

    Matt Cummings from the power distributor says 13,000 homes are without power in the East and West Midlands - the worst affected areas in the UK.

    The worst affected areas include Worcester and Coventry, which, it says, is due to "a lot of snow and ice".

    According to Western Power distribution, external, more than 2,000 properties are without power in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire area.

    Some 1,700 homes and workplaces are without power in Warwickshire, and a further 350 in the Birmingham and Black Country area.

    It is hoped the power supplies will be restored by midday.
