    A decision on whether the Velo cycling event will return to Worcestershire this year will be made next month.

    Last September 15,000 took part, but some people were angry because roads in part of the county were closed for the whole day.

    It's already been announced that Velo Birmingham is going to return again this year, but details of the 100-mile route have yet to be confirmed.

    Four people have been arrested and charged on suspicion of breaching an injunction banning 'car cruising' across Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country.

    Four men are alleged to have taken part in street racing on Nechells Parkway and the A38 Minworth by-pass on Sunday night.

    The High Court order, introduced in October 2016, bans people from racing, driving in convoy, performing stunts and causing an obstruction on a pulic highway.

    The four appeared in court yesterday, police said, external, and were bailed to return at a later date.

    Cheshire Fire Service wants to increase its portion of the council tax bill by nearly 3%.

    The rise would cost the average household just over £2 more a year and it says it needs the extra money to balance the books.

    Last year an increase of 5% was considered, which would have meant an extra £3.60 a year for the average Band D house.

    A 37-year-old woman from Telford has suffered head injuries after a head-on crash between her car and a lorry on the A5 in Staffordshire last night.

    The police said the collision happened near Four Ashes at 21:35, near the junction with Vicarage Road.

    The woman was taken to Newcross Hospital, where her condition is described as stable.

    It's been an emotional journey on BBC WM this afternoon as hundreds of listeners have been in touch with their stories of Ed Doolan.

    The broadcaster was the first local radio presenter to be inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame, in 2004 and admired by so many.

    Army Lynx helicopters have been flying over RAF Shawbury, in Shropshire, and Leominster, in Herefordshire, to mark the retirement of the aircraft after 40 years of service.

    It's part of a commemorative flight taking in military bases and locations associated with the helicopter.

    Shawbury is the main training base for helicopter pilots from all the armed forces and the aircraft taking part in the flight stopped to refuel at the base.

    A teenager from Malvern who had to wait 13 years to get compensation from the NHS is now using money to pay for specialist equipment, home alterations and physiotherapy.

    Daniel Spencer was left severely disabled after being starved of oxygen shortly before birth, due to failings in care during labour at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in 2001.

    He is now 16 and requires round-the-clock care, uses a wheelchair and struggles to communicate.

    His father, Olly, said it took 12 years for the NHS trust to admit partial liability for his son's condition and pay out £2.7m, with extra annual payments for ongoing care.

    At the time, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said it "sincerely regrets" the injury Daniel suffered.

    NHS medical blunders dating back more than two decades are still costing millions of pounds a year in compensation, it has emerged.

    Henry Foster, who works at Sunrise Bakery opposite the huge Midlands Metropolitan Hospital development, said the construction site was usually busy.

    The Smethwick gates have been locked since Monday.

    “There’s normally lots of people working,” he said. “I can normally see 20 to 30 people working from here.”

    “I heard about it [Carillion collapse] on the news and was surprised.”

    One lane of Grove Lane had been closed for the building work to take place which caused delays as “traffic backed-up” at busy times, he said adding that it should be re-opened if the work was held-up.

    “You just hope work will continue and it will not be left as a big empty structure,” he added.
