    The Chair of Coventry City's Former Players Association, Billy Bell, said Cyrille's death is "devastating news" for all former players and the people of Coventry as the man was a "hell of a nice guy, and hell of a player".

    Carillion's chairman Philip Green says the government will provide funding to maintain the public services run by the Wolverhampton-based firm.

    The firm says it anticipates that PwC, the accountancy firm, will be appointed as "special managers" to act on behalf of the official receiver that will oversee the liquidation of the company.

    A man 's due in court later after a woman's death in Hereford

    Julie Clark, 59, was found dead at her home in Highmore Street on 9 January. A post-mortem examination revealed she died from stab wounds.

    Jason Nellist, 40, Nicholson Court, Hereford, has been charged with her murder.

    West Midlands Mayor Andy Street tweets it's a testament to the "enduring popularity" of Cyrille Regis that he's loved by supporters of four of our region's clubs.

    In Coventry he's remembered for the part he played in the 1987 winning FA Cup final team.

    After leaving Coventry in 1991 he joined Aston Villa before a stint at Wolves.

  8. Cyrille Regis: Pioneer for black footballerspublished at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2018

    Cyrille Regis played alongside Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson at The Hawthorns.

    The trio of Regis, Cunningham and Batson, nicknamed the Three Degrees by their manager Ron Atkinson, were subject to racist abuse from fans during the late 1970s.

    They were honoured with a 10ft statue, called The Celebration, which was unveiled in West Bromwich in 2014.

    Regis,who was appointed an MBE in 2008,returned to West Brom as a coach before becoming a football agent.

    Former West Browmich Albion, Coventry City and England footballer Cyrille Regis has died, aged 59.

    He scored 112 goals in 297 appearances for the Baggies before joining Coventry City for £250,000 in 1984.

    A grandmother from Wolverhampton who faced deportation is to take legal action against the government after finally being given leave to remain in the UK.

    Paulette Wilson, who's 61, moved to the West Midlands more than 50 years ago.

    Last year she was detained for a week in Yarl's Wood after wrongly being deemed to be here illegally.

    Her solicitor James Wilson said they would be applying for judicial review, on the grounds she was unlawfully deprived of benefits and hoped she would able to claim compensation.

    A man who spiralled into debt says he has kept his bankruptcy a secret from friends because of "the scale of embarrassment" and "ridicule" that comes with it.

    Martin - not his real name - was earning £1,900 a month as a factory worker but became ill and started borrowing money.

    His journey to bankruptcy - and the extent of insolvency where he lives - can be seen on BBC Inside Out at 19:30 on BBC One tonight and afterwards on the iPlayer.

    He was speaking as an investigation reveals Stoke-on-Trent has more new cases of individual insolvency than in any other part of England and Wales.

    A teenager was stabbed to death in Walsall over the weekend.

    The 19-year-old was found with stab wounds at an address in Willows Road, Walsall after police were called at about 01:45.

    The teenage victim is yet to be named - the scene was cordoned off for forensic investigations.

    We start by bringing you the news Carillion has announced it is taking steps to enter voluntary liquidation, threatening thousands of jobs.

    The Wolverhampton-based construction company said talks over the weekend to secure short-term financial support for the business failed.

    "The board of Carillion has therefore concluded that it had no choice but to take steps to enter into compulsory liquidation with immediate effect," a statement said

    Philip Green, chairman of Carillion, says: "This is a very sad day for Carillion, for our colleagues, suppliers and customers that we have been proud to serve over many years."
