    A woman who the RSPCA says kept four emaciated puppies and a dog in a filthy backyard has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years.

    The RSPCA says their inspector found the puppies in a garden which was full of rubbish bags and debris.

    The charity says the owner told them she'd been woken up the night before by the puppies and put them outside in the pouring rain.

    Carly Bennett, 28, of Trowbridge Crescent, Stoke-on-Trent pleaded guilty to two animal welfare offences at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

    She was given a 12-month community order and fined £120.

    Dignity - the UK's only funeral company with shares listed on the London Stock Market - has said profits this year are likely to be "substantially below" expectations as it struggles with a price war in the sector.

    The Sutton Coldfield-based company says it has been losing market share, with customers shopping around in an "over-supplied industry".

    As a result, Dignity is cutting the price of its simple funeral plan by about 25%, and freezing prices of its traditional funerals in most of its locations.

    The English Football League said it has communicated to it's 72 clubs that while it's "placing no obligation" to pay tribute to Cyrille Regis this weekend, it's offering "full support" to clubs that do.

    Premier League clubs will mark his death with a minute of applause and the wearing of black armbands to recognise "his special role as a trailblazer for black players in modern English football".

    Coventry City have said they will show tributes on the big screen at their home match against Swindon on Saturday.

    The FA said it plans to pay tribute to the footballer and "acknowledge his tremendous contribution to English football" during the March international window.

    About 20 people evacuated from the site of a gas leak in Sutton Coldfield are being looked after in a local pub, the city council said.

    "Those affected have been taken to The Fox pub where they're being kept informed of developments by Birmingham resilience officers", the council said.

    A shop worker had bleach sprayed into her eyes and poured over her head after asking a man to re-join a queue for the tills, police say.

    CCTV images of a man officers would like to speak to have been released after the incident in Poundland, Wulfrun Square in Wolverhampton.

    The 24-year-old victim suffered burning and reddening to her eyes and body after the attack on Friday 5 January.

    Quick-thinking colleagues encouraged her to remove her damaged clothing and rinse the affected skin or else her injuries could have been a lot worse, police said.

    A scheme which should protect hundreds of homes and businesses in Birmingham from flooding has been completed.

    Householders in Selly Park found their homes awash after the River Rea burst it's banks 10 years ago.

    The new flood walls and flood storage area installed by the Environment Agency will help reduce the risk of flooding for 220 homes and businesses.

    The Bayeux Tapestry would feel at home among other historic tapestries in Coventry, according to the team launching a bid to bring the work to the city.

    Graham Sutherland's Christ in Glory hangs in Coventry Cathedral and has "major French influences", said David Burbage, chairman of the Coventry City of Culture Trust.

    Also in the city is the Coventry Tapestry, which dates from around 1500 and which hangs at St Mary's Guildhall.

    This is "widely recognised as one of the rarest and most important examples of this art in the country," he said.

    “So if we could bring the world famous Bayeux Tapestry here, it would be a great attraction for visitors from around the country – and indeed around the world – to come to the city and enjoy all of our tapestries."
