    A Birmingham man has been jailed for 21 months after admitting an assault in which a man was left with facial injuries.

    Rinaldo Sciolla, 32, from Preston Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court yesterday.

    The attack on his victim - a man in his 40s - happened in Rugby in June.

    Worcester centre Ben Te'o (pictured) has been named in the England squad for the Six Nations opener against Italy in Rome.

    That's despite the player having an ankle injury that has kept him out since October.

    The 35-man squad to face the Italians in Rome on Sunday 4 February also includes Wasps captain Joe Launchbury.

    But England boss Eddie Jones is without Wasps player Elliot Daly who has an ankle problem.

    Wasps' James Haskell is also banned for the opener against Italy and 10 February's home fixture against Wales after being found guilty of dangerous play for the club side.

    A man who admitted pulling an imitation firearm on police officers trying to arrest him has been jailed for three years.

    Warwickshire Police said Marvin Parnell, 41, of no fixed address, resisted arrest during an incident in Leamington Spa's Pump Room Gardens in November 2017 while on recall to prison.

    He also pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine at the Warwick Crown Court hearing yesterday.

    Ch Supt Alex Franklin-Smith said his officers had shown "immense bravery in tackling a dangerous man" they assumed was threatening them "with a real firearm".

    With news that the Bayeux Tapestry is set to be displayed in the UK for the first time in 950 years, it's brought a reminder about a Staffordshire connection to the artwork.

    That's because there is a full-size replica of the tapestry, the origins of which lie in Leek.

    A Birmingham teenager arrested at the city's airport has pleaded guilty to a charge of preparing for terrorist acts.

    The 16-year-old from Sutton Coldfield, who cannot be named, had been reported missing by his family. The flight he was looking to board in June was bound for Istanbul, West Midlands Police said.

    At Westminster Magistrates Court earlier, police said, he was bailed to appear before a youth court on 20 February.

    The West Midlands force says it's believed the boy planned to make his way from Turkey to the war zone in Syria, joining a proscribed organisation there.

    A computer hacker who admitted a series of cyber crimes, including attacks on Google and Skype, has been jailed for two years.

    Alex Bessell from Liverpool admitted nine offences, including receiving £50,000 from proceeds of a website he set up to sell malware.

    He was arrested in September following an investigation by West Midlands Police.

    The 21-year-old was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court earlier.

    More than 50 trees came down in Staffordshire last night, external as wind speeds hit up to 70mph in parts.

    The county council says power lines were also brought down in Rudyard, while part of a barn roof was blown onto the A34 at Brocton.

    A school says it is still waiting for a replacement crossing warden a year after losing its lollipop lady.

    Worcestershire County Council says it's advertising for roles, but St Barnabas C Of E Primary School - one of at least five in the county trying to recruit crossing patrol - says children's safety cannot wait any longer.
