    The Office for National Statistics said it will provide an update on the impact that the collapse of Carillion has had on public sector finances.

    It said: "Following the announcement of the insolvency of Carillion PLC, the government , externalhas stated that it will provide the necessary funding required by the Official Receiver to maintain public services. Any impact of these financial interventions on public sector finances will be announced in due course."

    It added: "Carillion held approximately 450 contracts with government, representing 38% of Carillion’s 2016 reported revenue."

    Actress Rachel Shenton said she drew on her own experiences as a youngster to write the now Oscar-nominated short film, The Silent Child.

    "My dad lost his hearing when I was younger, so I saw the profound effects it has on a family," she said.

    "That gave me the impetus to learn sign-language and indeed get involved in the deaf community".

    Profoundly deaf actress Maisie Sly, who plays lead role Libby, looks like she will be heading to the red carpet in March. This was filmed before the nominations.

    The news two swimming pools are to close to make way for the new Commonwealth Games aquatic centre at Smethwick has been causing some debate on the BBC Midlands Facebook page., external

    Smethwick Baths and the pool at Langley will shut.

    Barbara Humphreys wrote: "Why? There is an obesity explosion but you are closing the easiest and most accessible exercise centres. Ridiculous!"

    Charli Preston likes the plans though and commented: "I think it will make the area look much better....can't get much worse and there are dog walk paths and fields in around the whole of Sandwell that can be used alternatively."

    A woman suspected as being an illegal gangmaster is being questioned by licensing officials.

    The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority said the 25-year-old, who holds Romanian and German passports, was arrested over allegations she attempted to supply seven migrant workers to a recruitment agency in Telford.

    She is being questioned in Wolverhampton.

    Officers from the GLAA also visited two addresses in the Newbridge area of the town this morning.

    Jaguar Land Rover will cut production of some vehicles amid uncertainty over Brexit and changes to taxes on diesel cars.

    The company will temporarily scale back output of the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models later this year.

    Last week, JLR said its global sales hit a record in 2017, but that the UK market was "tough".

    Vehicle makers have blamed Brexit confusion and a hike in diesel taxation for a general fall in UK car sales.

    The two Land Rover models are made at the company's Halewood plant on Merseyside.

    Three teenagers have been arrested following a robbery in Stafford during the early hours.

    Police were called just after 01:00, following reports a 19-year-old man had been attacked on Radford Bank and that cash had been stolen.

    A 16-year-old girl, 19-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy, all from Stafford, remain in police custody while inquiries continue.

    Actress and writer Rachel Shenton said she and co-writer Chris Overton are "just so overwhelmed" to receive an Academy Award nomination for their film - shot in Stoke-on-Trent - The Silent Child.

    She said they were "going to make sure" actress Maisie Sly, who plays the lead role of Libby, will be on the red carpet alongside them.

    Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke she said the pair had "such a strange sick excitement" before the nominations today.

    "Any short film is notoriously a labour of love and this was no exception," she said.

    "We crowdfunded for the movie, we shot it on a shoestring, it was all hands on deck and we had to be very resourceful."

    "Our lead, our protagonist, is a profoundly deaf five-year-old who we had to find and work with.

    Nicola Payne's brother said her family hopes the new search for the missing teenager is "the start of the end" for them.

    A team of ex-military specialists has been searching lakes and woodland around Coombe Country Park, including the well of a nearby house.

    Scott Payne said he had faith in the team's ability to find the body of his sister.

    "If Nicola is here, this team will find her," he said.

    "They have so much experience, this is what they do full-time , and they've been very successful on many occasions all over the world."

    A Leeds mum is trying to find a doctor who lives in Birmingham after she helped her daughter when she fell ill on a flight from Egypt yesterday.

    Lesley Keeley was on a flight back from Marsa Alam with her one-year-old daughter Nancy when her temperature suddenly rocketed up and she became unresponsive with her eyes rolling into the back of her head.

    Flight crews gave her medicine and a doctor on board that came to the family's aid to Nancy treatment.

    Lesley said "She explained what was happening, stripped her down and gave her a special blanket. She also got her cold flannels for her head."

    The doctor stayed with the family until paramedics arrived at Birmingham airport - Now Keeley wants to find her so she can thank her and give her an update on Nancy.

    A man who worked at a roadside cafe in Shropshire has been jailed for life for the murder of a man who was found dead there.

    Belkar Singh, 58, of Booth Street, Birmingham, was found guilty of killing 67-year-old Satnam Singh Blugher by a jury earlier today. Singh, who worked as a dish washer, will serve a minimum of 28 years.

    Mr Blugher was found dead with serious head and torso injuries last June at Tony's Diner, Halfway House, where he lived.

    Alexander Leonard, 22, died after suffering a single stab wound to the chest after the attack in Woodgate Gardens, Batley Green, last July.

    Cameron Martin-Leon, 17, of Allwood Gardens, Bartley Green, was found guilty after a trial and sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court today. He will serve a minimum term of 14 years.

    Private investigators are continuing to search woodlands and lakes near Coventry for missing mum Nicola Payne.

    Nicola’s family say new information has located two new sites of interest close to a previous police search carried out in 2016.

    Police officers are on the site but not part of the active search which is being carried out by ex-military personnel.

    The private company Specialist Group International are using the latest sonar and ground radar equipment and a helicopter in a search of land and water close to Coombe Abbey Country Park.
