    A former Crewe Alexandra football coach has denied six charges of indecent assault.

    Paul McCann, 57, of Great Sutton, Cheshire, appeared at Chester Crown Court to face the charges relating to a boy under 16 and a boy over 16.

    He pleaded not guilty to all six this morning and was given unconditional bail.

    A trial date's been set for 8 October to last five days.

    A murder investigation's been launched after a man who was found badly beaten died from his injuries., external

    Police arrived at a house in Mansell Road, Small Heath, Birmingham, last night and found the victim unconscious.

    He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Police understand there was a fight inside the house which led to the man suffering fatal injuries.

    West Midlands Police say they were called to Kimpton Close, Druids Heath, Birmingham, on Monday.

    The pair, aged 32 and 36, will appear before magistrates later.

    The 36-year-old has been charged with possessing a prohibited weapon and ammunition, aggravated burglary and affray.

    While the 32-year-old's been charged with possessing a prohibited weapon and ammunition and having a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

    Questions are being asked about an £80,000 grant which was given to The New Saints football club six years ago.

    Oswestry town councillor Duncan Kerr (Green) says it should have been paid back by now.

    Shropshire Council will only say it gave the club the money to make improvements to its stadium, but council emails shown to the BBC appear to show there was an agreement that the club would then voluntarily give some of the grant back, by paying money to Oswestry Town Council.

    Town councillors say the money hasn't been paid.

    The New Saints, who play in the Welsh Premier League, said they had met all their obligations, but would not comment any further.

    The town council met on Monday night and agreed to write to Shropshire Council to ask for more information.

    We're expecting a number of deals to be done before the end of transfer deadline day and both Shrewsbury Town and Burton Albion are in the market for reinforcements.

    Burton have just tweeted, external to say they've agreed a deal to bring in a young midfielder, who they plan to announce later this morning.

    And Shrewsbury are hoping to tie up deals for a midfielder and an attacking player, possibly a winger.

    An inquest into the death of an eight-year-old girl's been opened.

    Mylee Billingham was stabbed in Valley View, Brownhills, near Walsall on 20 January.

    Her father, Bill Billingham, 54, has been arrested on suspicion of her murder. He has undergone surgery for a stab wound.

    Police said at the inquest he's still being treated in hospital and they will interview him once he's discharged.

    Marks and Spencer says its Redditch store will shut by the end of April.

    The firm says its latest round of store closures is part of a wider turnaround plan.

    In November, the retailer announced it would shut 30 UK clothing and homeware shops and convert dozens more into food stores.

    The Redditch site is among six that will close by April's end but it says all staff will move to nearby shops.

    The behaviour of "some individuals with power" has led to council staff in Cheshire being bullied, an independent report found.

    Some 14% of respondents to a survey - about 200 Cheshire East Council employees - said they had experienced it during the second half of 2017.

    Some felt former council leader Michael Jones may have "set a tone" which "encouraged" or "excused" unacceptable behaviour, the report added.

    But Mr Jones told the BBC the problem got worse after he stood down in 2015.

    Cannabis plants worth around £100,000 have been seized from what police have called, external a "sophisticated" factory.

    Officers raided a home on Woodland Street in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent yesterday morning after a tip-off from the public. Two hundred plants were found at the house.

    The force says no-one was in the property at the time and no arrests have yet been made.

    The Vauxhall driver, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A woman who suffered multiple stab wounds in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday is in a stable condition in hospital, police say.

    The force has described the incident on Foley Road, Longton yesterday afternoon as a "domestic-related" attack.

    North Wales Police officers later stopped a car at an Asda supermarket in Queensferry, Flintshire.

    A 48-year-old man from Longton was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and officers say he's now been brought to Staffordshire and is in custody.
