    An investigation into the Wolverhampton-based construction giant Carillion begins today.

    A joint inquiry by the Work and Pensions Committee and the Business Committee will look at how and why the company collapsed.

    Frank Field, chairman of the Work and Pensions Committee said: "It's clear that Carillion has been trying to wriggle out of its obligations to its pensioners for the last 10 years."

    A murder investigation is under way after a man died from stab wounds in Hereford.

    The man, in his 30s, was attacked at around midday yesterday on Commercial Street in Hereford.

    Two men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after the incident remain in police custody.

    A man and a woman arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice are also being held.

    Thousands of people are expected to gather in West Bromwich later to celebrate the life of Cyrille Regis, the former striker who died suddenly at the age of 59.

    An all-ticket memorial service is taking place at The Hawthorns, following a private funeral.

    Regis, who played for Albion, Coventry City, Aston Villa and Wolves, became a role model for many black players in English football.

    A Shropshire-based charity's been given almost £600,000 to draw up a database of the country's burial grounds., external

    The conservation group, Caring for God's Acre, which works from Craven Arms, says it'll use the money to record urban cemeteries, graveyards and churchyards.

    It says it'll look to record and preserve the rare plants and animals which exist at the sites but are under threat in the wider countryside.

    The group's been given the money by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

    A list of candidates standing in by-elections in Lichfield in February has been released.

    They were triggered when Conservative councillor David Smedley resigned earlier this mont, externalh as representative on both the city and district councils for the Stowe ward.

    For Lichfield District Council, five people will contest the seat, while four will battle it out to win the Lichfield City Council by-election.

    A man arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in Birmingham has been released without charge., external

    The body was discovered at a property on South Road, Erdington, just after 02:00, West Midlands Police said.

    The force says it's no longer treating her death as suspicious and has released a 52-year-old man from South Road.

    Wasps back-row forward James Haskell's been added to England's squad for the Six Nations opener against Italy on Sunday alongside Joe Marler despite both being suspended.

    The pair were not part of England's 34-man training camp in Portugal but have now been called-up.

    Both players will miss England's opening two Six Nations fixtures after they were given suspensions this month.

    Haskell was banned for a dangerous tackle while Marler was suspended for a dangerous clear-out of a ruck.

    Amanda Davies, her three young sons and her partner have spent the weekend in a hotel after escaping the flames at the Droitwich property on Saturday.

    West Midlands Police says 34,000 drivers were caught breaking the speed limit last year - that's down from more than 53,000 in 2016.

    West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson says "it looks as if people are driving more carefully and cautiously than previously".

    The fastest speeding driver was recorded travelling at 135mph.

    Nearly 70 motorists were caught driving at more than 100mph.

    A review of the authority's culture says while bullying affects only a minority of employees, "it is having a profound effect on those who experience or witness it".

    The report was written by the Local Government Association which was asked by the council to carry out an independent review.

    The council's acting chief executive Kath O’Dwyer said the authority was "determined to take all necessary action" to address concerns raised.

    A couple lost tens of thousands of pounds after a builder left their home unfit to live in.

    The couple, from Solihull, said they paid more than £80,000 to Rohail Aslam, who goes by the name of Billy, to refurbish and extend their house.

    They say he left them with a leaking roof and dangerous walls.
