    A supermarket says it's banned customers from wearing nightwear after a customer did a Sunday morning shop in his pants.

    The owner of the Shropshire store - where pyjamas and dressing gowns have been outlawed - says it's about standards.

    Harry Delves of Tuffins in Craven Arms said: "We had someone not long ago on a Sunday morning coming in in their pants and a dressing gown.

    "You've got to look at that and think 'hang on, that's not acceptable is it'?

    "We're a family business at the end of the day.

    "It comes to a point where you've got to have standards."

  3. Police misconduct hearing after woman dislocates elbowpublished at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2018

    A West Midlands Police officer is facing a gross misconduct hearing after it is alleged he used excessive force on a woman detained under the Mental Health Act.

    Sgt Matthew Shaw is alleged to have used excessive force to remove the woman after she wrapped her arms around cell bars, causing her to dislocate her elbow.

    The woman had been arrested in February 2015 in Birmingham to "prevent a breach of the peace".

    An investigation by the force found no concerns regarding Mr Shaw's conduct but the IPCC found there was a case to answer. The Crown Prosecution Service dropped a case into the matter in March 2017.

    Mr Shaw's misconduct hearing will start on Tuesday and is expected to last three days.

    Work to strip down a Spitfire on display at a Stoke-on-Trent museum has started.

    Specialists are taking the wartime aircraft apart at the Potteries Museum, Hanley in readiness for it to be removed and fully restored.

    An airline with plans for a new route from Birmingham to the USA has axed flights, even before the route was launched.

    Primera Air announced in October that it would fly passengers from Birmingham Airport to Boston, but has since said "significantly lower demand" has made it reconsider.

    The airline also announced that flights to New York would be reduced, with four flights per week from June 2018.

    Alternative flights or refunds are being offered to passengers with existing bookings.

    Armed police were called to a railway station after reports of up to 20 youths armed with weapons at the site.

    Trains weren't allowed to stop at the station while the situation was sorted.

    Two men, aged 18 and 20, both from Birmingham, have been charged with possession of knives in a public place and will appear in court next month.

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed.

    Another man and a woman have also been arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

    The victim was stabbed just after 12:00 GMT on Commercial Street, Hereford, and is in a serious condition in hospital.

    The area remains closed and there is a police presence as investigations continue.

    For the fifth year running Birmingham has been named the best place for start-up companies outside London.

    In 2017, more than 12,000 new businesses were set up in Birmingham, BQ reports, external, which was almost 4,000 more than Manchester, which ranked third.

    A woman found shot dead inside her car on Friday has been named as 51-year-old Cheryl Hooper.

    Ms Hooper was found dead at Farmers Gate in Newport. A post mortem examination confirmed she died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

    A 45-year-old man, believed to have been known to Ms Hooper, was arrested on suspicion of murder on farmland near Sutton, Shrewsbury, where a shotgun was also recovered.

    He remains in hospital under police guard, where he is being treated for gunshot wounds which are not thought to be suspicious.

    Fire crews were called to Woodmans Rise, Droitwich, on Saturday.

    They say the ground and first floors of the end-of-terrace house were already well alight when they arrived.

    The family escaped unhurt and Wychavon District Council says it's put them up in a hotel.

    Stratford Road in Birmingham is now expected to be closed until Thursday morning.

    Sunday afternoon's fire in a row of shops has left buildings unsafe and they need to be demolished.

    Bus routes will be affected by the road closure, including the X20A, X20, 2, 3, 5, 6, 6A. 31, 34 and 37.
