  1. MP clarifies 'little village' railway station commentspublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

The Telford MP, Lucy Allan, has defended comments she made yesterday about rail services to and from the town.

In a Westminster Hall debate she said: "We need more carriages. We need at least one fast train per hour, missing out those little Shropshire villages, for which there is no demand at all."

But she has now clarified those comments to emphasise she doesn't want "smaller stations" like Shifnal, Bilbrook and Codsall to lose services.

    Lucy Allan

Mrs Allan said: "With an extra train per hour due to come into service soon, I want to make sure it serves Telford, by providing a new fast service, rather than an additional ‘all stops,’ service per hour. It would take pressure off the existing stopping service making that more accessible to those wishing to travel to all stops."

And she added, "If you live in a major population centre you rightly expect to have better rail connectivity than if you live in a rural village or small town."

  5. Your comments: Should trains stop at 'village stations'?published at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

A suggestion from the Telford MP that the town needs more "express" services which don't stop at "little Shropshire villages" has provoked a lot of debate on the BBC Shropshire Facebook page., external

Kathy Perry was one of those who argued the case for the stations like Shifnal, Cosford and Albrighton, writing: "There are always people getting on and off at these smaller stations, particularly at rush hour."

But Stuart Parr saw some sense in the idea, commenting: "We need to keep the existing trains that stop at every again but we need faster and cheaper trains connecting Telford to more places."

And Shion Lambert asked: "Plans are already in place for an extra service following the award by the government of which she is a member. Trains are being built at the moment so why make a statement when this is being addressed?"

It started to creep in a bit last year, mostly among spectators. They were being over-enthusiastic mainly as a result of alcohol. When it starts to get a bit too noisy and a bit too personal with the bad language then it spoils everybody's enjoyment. The general opinion is that it is not wanted in bowls, it is not what bowls is about."
