    The i54 site, to the north-west of the city, is already home to Jaguar Land Rover's engine manufacturing centre, which employs 1,400 people.

    Wolverhampton City Council is part of the partnership behind it and says plans have been drawn up for a 100-acre western extension of the site.

    The authority says the proposals will go before South Staffordshire District Council's planning committee in the spring.

    Trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street are being disrupted this morning due to emergency services dealing with an incident between the stations.

    National Rail Enquiries say services could be delayed by up to 45 minutes, external or diverted via Bescot Stadium and disruption's expected to last until 09:00.

    A distribution firm has submitted plans to expand its site, with the potential to create 40 new jobs.

    Commercial Body Fittings (CBF) already employs 30 people at its base in Budden Road in Coseley.

    But it has now submitted a planning application to Dudley Council, with the hope of beginning work on expanding its site in spring, if it is approved.

    A calf and a ewe have been killed in a "sickening incident" in Worcestershire.

    West Mercia Police say someone broke into a property on Redhill Lane in Rubery some time between Sunday night and 08:00 on Tuesday morning and "brutally slaughtered" the calf, before dragging over a ewe from a nearby field and killing that too.

    The force said the attack "undoubtedly caused a lot of suffering to the two animals" and believes it was done for their meat.

    Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital is asking former patients to bring their crutches back, because it is facing a shortage.

    The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt hospital at Gobowen says it hands out between 150 and 200 pairs every week, but very few are returned.

    The hospital says each pair of crutches costs £7.15, so this week alone it has spent more than £1,700 on new ones.

    It says it suspects a lot of patients store them away in garages or cupboards and forget about them.

    Rainbow Venues bosses say they still intend to press ahead with an appeal against the loss of the licence at one of its premier nightspots.

    The Rainbow Venues in Digbeth had its licence revoked by Birmingham City Council in November after the drug-related deaths of teenagers Michael Trueman and Dylan Booth.

    It launched an appeal against the decision at the end of last year.

    Rainbow Venues have announced some of its venues could change hands because of costs it has suffered by the licence being revoked.

    A spokesman said they are not in a position to confirm which of its locations could change hands, with discussions ongoing with potential operators.

  11. Three arrested after man left with head injuriespublished at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    Three people have been arrested after a disturbance in Alcester which saw a man in his 30s taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

    It broke out in St Nicholas Close at about 19:45 GMT on Friday, police said.

    Two men, aged 22 and 21, and an 18-year-old woman, all from south Warwickshire, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They have been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

    Warwickshire Police said the man's injury is not believed to be life threatening.

    The Environment Agency believes it has found the source of pollution in a Worcestershire river.

    It also said water quality in the Piddle Brook has improved, but "sadly large numbers of fish have been killed".

    A man has admitted dumping a glass tank near a nature reserve.

    Broken glass from the tank could have had "deadly" consequences for local wildlife at Sheepwash Nature Reserve in Tipton, wildlife officers said.

    Following an appeal for information about Monday's inciden a man has been issued with a £400 fixed penalty for fly-tipping.

  15. Restoration delayed as firm goes into administrationpublished at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    Work to preserve an 18th Century building in Telford has stopped after four years of trying to get the project off the ground.

    Construction company Saxonby, which was turning Haybridge Hall in Hadley into affordable housing, went into administration last week.

    Cheshire East Council says it's doing all it can to repair roads with potholes, but it wants people to report more.

    Three quarters of the pot holes it repairs are spotted through "regular inspections" carried out by its staff, with the other quarter reported by the public, it says.

    A group of venues in Birmingham may be handed over to new operators, after a flagship club was forced to close when it lost its licence.

    Birmingham City Council revoked the licence of the Rainbow Warehouse in Digbeth, in November, following the death of two teenagers after visits to the club in Lower Trinity Street.

    Lee McDonald, founder of the Rainbow Venues, said it will now be relinquishing control of most of its estate because of "costs" caused by the loss of licence.

    He said the decision was made with "genuine sadness and regret" and that further announcements would be made in due course.

    Gymnast Claudia Fragapane and high jumper Robbie Grabarz have been in Birmingham today as it prepares for a month of major sporting events.

    In March, the city hosts the IAAF World Indoor Championships, the All England Badminton Open Championships and the Gymnastics World Cup.

    Ian Ward, leader of Birmingham City Council said the hat-trick of events will be particularly "special" for the city as it prepares to host the Commonwealth games in four years time.

    The coroner in the Beth Shipsey case says he will write to the government calling for the sale of DNP to be made illegal.

    Beth Shipsey died in hospital in February 2017 after taking pills which she bought over the internet.
