  2. Private Derby XXXII meets Prince Charlespublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2018

    The Prince of Wales has met one of the newest recruits to the Mercian Regiment - a ram called Private Derby XXXII.

    The mascot, which is known for it's feisty reputation, met Prince Charles who visited the Mercian Regiment to mark his 10 years as colonel-in-chief.

    Private Derby XXXII, who is a 20-month-old Swaledale, only took up it’s role a few weeks ago.

    The Mercian Regiment recruits soldiers from Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Cheshire.

    Tickets for the BBC's Biggest Weekend gig in Coventry are now on sale.

    Tears for Fears have been added to the line-up which also includes Paloma Faith, Billy Ocean and Nigel Kennedy.

    This is the A537 Cat and Fiddle road which has been shut after the overnight snow and ice.

    The B5470 Whaley Bridge and the A54 Wildboarclough routes in Cheshire are also shut.

    Cheshire East Council says it is working to get them reopened and its gritting teams are treating main roads.

    The wintry weather overnight and freezing conditions this morning have led to bin collections being suspended in the Newcastle-under-Lyme area., external

    The borough council's apologised, saying it'll update on the waste and recycling pick-ups "when more information becomes available".

    The father of an eight-year-old girl who was stabbed to death in Walsall is due in court today charged with her murder.

    Mylee Billingham was found with knife wounds at her father's home on 20 January. She died later in hospital.

    William Billingham, 54, of Valley View, Brownhills, has been charged with her murder and also with making threats to kill.

    He's due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.

    Support offered to children dealing with mental health issues doesn't go far enough, an MP says.

    The government's promised to spend £500,000 on a dedicated helpline for youngsters whose parents drink excessively.

    But Liam Byrne, MP for Birmingham Hodge Hill and whose father was an alcoholic, says more must be done to understand the true impact.

    Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has been praised for inspiring his team to victory over Birmingham City, after a week in which he lost his father.

    Villa scored twice in the second-half through Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane to move the team to second in the Championship.

    Birmingham saw Cheikh Ndoye given a stoppage-time red card for a second bookable offence .

    Tributes are being paid to pioneering photographer Masterji, who's died at the age of 95.

    Maganbhai Patel arrived in Coventry from India in 1951 and spent many years taking photographs of his community.

    His work was used in Coventry's successful bid to become UK City of Culture in 2021.

    His daughter, Tarla Patel, tweeted he had died, external, saying it had been "wonderful" to see him get recognition for his photography.

    A police puppy has been named after an 11-year-old girl who chased a burglar from her home.

    Robyn Birdsell grabbed the 31-year-old by the leg as he attempted to escape over a garden fence, police said.

    He struggled free but her evidence helped police trace the "prolific thief", who was eventually given a jail term of nearly four years.

    Robyn, from Sutton Coldfield, picked her namesake from a litter of German Shepherd puppies.
