    A former tenant farmer who had to leave his rented land after 14 years when it was sold off says he has been doing odd jobs ever since.

    He said it took 12 months to agree his compensation and finally got his cheque in January.

    Since his farm was sold, he said he's being travelling around, looking for work and doing odd jobs, but wants to get back into the farming industry, saying, "it's out of my hands, but what I want to do is farm".

    Herefordshire Council has said the money from the sales will be used to fund struggling services.

    A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his niece.

    Delroy Forrester, 51, of Lower Villiers Street, Blakenhall, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court earlier charged with the murder of Jasmine Forrester.

    The 11-year-old died in hospital after sustaining head injuries at a house in Kent Road, Wolverhampton, on Friday.

    The case was adjourned for a plea hearing at the same court on 3 April.

    Plans have been submitted for a new office development in Wolverhampton.

    Developer Ion, said the proposed i9 building on Railway Drive could be built by 2020, if plans are approved.

    A 33-year-old woman and her dog have been rescued from a flat fire in Stafford.

    It broke out in the hallway of the first floor flat on Sidney Avenue, just before 18:00 yesterday and she was unable to get out by herself.

    Firefighters say she didn't need hospital care, and the fire is thought to be accidental.

    Three netballers from the West Midlands have been named by Team England among the squad to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia.

    It includes captain Ama Agbeze, who now plays for New Zealand's Northern Stars but, was born in Selly Oak, who will be competing in her third games.

    Team Bath player Eboni Beckford-Chambers, from Solihull, will also be in the team for a third time.

    Tenant farmers who had their homes and land sold off by Herefordshire Council last year have been paid more than £1m in compensation.

    Herefordshire Council hoped to raise more than £40m by selling off 59 lots of land ranging in price from £175,000 to £2m and so far 43 farms have been sold.

    The council says it's unable to confirm the final figure raised by the sales as "the process is still ongoing".

    It said it must fund the "growing bill" for caring for elderly and vulnerable people in the county.

    One farmer who had to leave when his site was sold said he believed the council had not earned as much as they thought they would get.

    The jury at the trial of the former football coach Barry Bennell has been sent home for the rest of the day, because of juror illness.

    Yesterday it had asked for more time to consider its verdicts on seven remaining charges, after finding him guilty of 36 sex offences against boys.

    Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says it's far too early to write off their chances of avoiding relegation.

    They are in the Premier League's bottom two, but still have 11 games to play and he believes there will be some surprise results between now and the end of the season.

    The chairman also said it was a mistake to assume they could pick up points from the other teams at the bottom of the table and that all games are difficult.

    Points have been repaired but there are still some delays on the Midlands Metro line after vandalism and cable thefts.

    Trams are running from Wolverhampton to Grand Central in Birmingham with delays after the overnight incident at Wednesbury Parkway.

    Midland Metro said workers had been changing points manually in a bid to keep services running, but this has now been repaired and lines are returning to normal.

    New figures show councils in the West Midlands have seen a steep decline in the number of people on waiting list for houses.

    It has been claimed a change in the law means more vulnerable people are unable to access social housing.

    In 2011, councils were granted greater powers to restrict access to social housing and, since then, 700,000 households have disappeared from waiting lists.

    North Warwickshire has seen a 78% drop in the number on its waiting list, going from 1702 in 2010 to 364.

    And in Telford & Wrekin, there has been a drop of 82%, with 13,119 households in 2010 to 2,304 last year.
