    A social landlord has been accused of not taking complaints about the quality of its homes seriously enough, with councillors saying it could be putting residents health at risk.

    An investigation into Whitefriars, the largest social landlords in Coventry, by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, has found people living in flats riven with damp as well as other issues like fire safety and anti-social behaviour.

    The company has more than 30,000 homes across the West Midlands.

    Damp in the Whitefriars home in Willenhall which Laura Burch and her three children live in.

    Whitefriars tenant, Jim McGee, said he has had to replace the furniture in his house twice because of damp and mould.

    In a statement, Whitefriars said it had spent £200m upgrading its housing stock.

    But a city councillor has said more still needs to be done.

  3. Mylee Billingham: Father misses court appearancepublished at 12:38 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2018

    A father charged with the murder of his eight-year-old daughter has missed his first court appearance, after being rushed to hospital.

    William Billingham, 54, had been due to appear before magistrates in Wolverhampton after being charged with the murder of Mylee Billingham and with making threats to kill.

    But magistrates were told Mr Billingham, of Valley View, Walsall, had been admitted to hospital at about 05:00 GMT on Monday.

    His solicitor, Paul Selby, told the court Mr Billingham may be fit enough to attend court on Tuesday.

    Mylee was pronounced dead in hospital after being found with knife wounds at a bungalow at around 9.15pm on 20 January.

    Her father had been in Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment to injuries caused on the same evening but was discharged on Friday.

    Five men have been bailed in in connection with an investigation into reported child sex exploitation and drugs trafficking offences.

    On Thursday, six men were arrested in Worcester when police executed warrants to raid a total of seven residential properties and three business premises.

    Now, a 20-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, a 24-year-old man and two 25-year-old men, all from Worcester, have been released on conditional bail.

    On Friday, a 19-year-old man, also from Worcester, arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply was released under investigation.

    A man smashed his way out of a house to escape a fire and then helped his wife and six children, external also get out of their home.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says it happened this morning on Station Road, Rolleston-on-Dove near Burton.

    They say the couple, both in their 30s, had woken up to find the house on fire and had to escape via a first-floor window and over the roof of their conservatory.

    All eight, including a five-month-old child, had breathed in smoke and paramedics gave them oxygen before taking them to hospital for more checks.

    Two new arrests have been made in connection with the death of a Birmingham teenager in Oxford.

    Harun Jama, 16, was found stabbed near a children's playground on 3 January.

    Craig Ford, 33, from Luther Street, Oxford, has been charged with his murder.

    Police have since arrested a 45-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, both from Oxford, on suspicion of assisting offenders.

    The relegation-threatened Potters were awarded a 90th-minute spot-kick when referee Bobby Madley judged Jese Rodriguez had been fouled by Dale Stephens.

    Charlie Adam picked up the ball, prompting a frustrated Jese to complain about not being allowed to take it, and Adam's effort was saved by Brighton keeper Mat Ryan.

    A grandfather with Parkinson's disease says he was told to leave a shop for acting suspiciously.

    He said symptoms caused his leg to seize, external and drag across the floor and a shop assistant said he had to leave because he was "walking funny".

    Chris Cartlidge, 51, who was diagnosed ten years ago, said it happened last month at Halfords in Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent.

    He said he'd never had an experience like that.

    Halfords said they're sorry about his experience and have apologised for any embarrassment caused.

    The uncle of an 11-year-old girl's appeared in court this morning, charged with her murder.

    Delroy Forrester, 51, was arrested after Jasmine Forrester was found seriously injured at a house on Kent Road, Wolverhampton, on Friday.

    Mr Forrester, of Lower Villiers Street, Blakenhall, appeared at Walsall Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody.

    He'll next appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday.

    A steam enthusiast is trying to bring a classic engine back to life.

    Alex Sharphouse has bought John Fowler & Co (Leeds) Ltd, one of the leading manufacturers of steam engines throughout the 1800s and 1900s.

    Alex, from the Lake District, has set his sights on building a Fowler B6 Big Lion Road Locomotive from scratch, with help from a Shropshire firm.

    Shrewsbury-based Morris Lubricants is sponsoring the rebuilding of the steam engine.

    The team behind the build hope to unveil it in Shropshire in August.
