    Requests for a medical cannabis licence to help six-year-old Alfie Dingley, who has a rare form of epilepsy, have been denied by the Home Office.

    Alfie's mother, Hannah Deacon, says the steroids he currently takes in hospital could eventually cause his organs to fail if he keeps taking them at the rate he is.

    "My son, from eight months old, has been injected with benzodiazepines, with opiates, with steroids... there is no clinical data to say that's safe."

    A service to celebrate the life of Cyrille Regis will be held at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday 4 March.

    The former Coventry, West Brom and England player died last month aged 59.

    The service will be led by the Dean of Coventry and include tributes from some of Cyrille’s football team-mates.

    Family and friends joined fans at a public celebration of his life at West Bromwich Albion ground The Hawthorns in January.

    More than 1,000 Transport for London (TfL)-registered private hire drivers have addresses as far away as Bradford and Cardiff.

    Letters released by the Mayor of London's Office show there were 747 TfL-registered minicab drivers in Birmingham and 378 in Bristol.

    It means local councils in those areas have no control over drivers' licensing or the number on their roads.

    Sadiq Khan has asked the government for greater licensing powers.

    He is calling on the Department for Transport (DfT) for powers to cut the number of licences issued in London and for minicab journeys to begin or end where the driver is registered.

    A new facility allowing relatives of young cancer patients to stay at a Birmingham hospital during their treatment has opened.

    The 'Home from Home' is walking distance from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and has been paid for entirely through fundraising.

    It's the third one of its kind that the hospital charity has opened.

    Investigations are continuing after a woman and a two-year-old boy died in a crash between a car and a lorry in Warwickshire.

    It happened at about 22:30 on Saturday when the car was coming off the M6 at J1 onto the A426 near Churchover.

    The woman, 31, and boy were declared dead at the scene.

    They were passengers in a blue Nissan Qashqai. The 35-year-old male driver of the car and another passenger, a six-year-old girl, were taken to hospital.

    Carillion's investors fled the failing company as it headed for disaster, according to MPs.

    The Wolverhampton construction firm's annual reports were a worthless guide to its financial health says a joint report published today by the Work and Pensions and Business committees.

    Frank Field, chairman of the Work and Pensions Committee, said there was a "disconnect" between what Carillion directors told MPs and the information from shareholders.

    "On one hand, the Carillion directors told us all was sunny" until a major contract in Qatar went wrong.

    "On the other hand, investors were fleeing for the hills, and it appears those who looked closest ran fastest," Mr Field said.

    A 26-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of public order offences after an angry note was left on an ambulance attending an emergency call in Stoke-on-Trent, police said., external

    Ch Insp John Owen from Staffordshire Police said emergency services must be able to carry out their roles "without fear of abuse or intimidation of any kind".

    A baby was delivered at the side of a Nuneaton Road yesterday by ambulance service workers.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service tweeted , externalthat baby Rosie was delivered by four workers on Sunday morning and that mum and baby were doing well.

  9. Woman found dead had been 'assaulted'published at 07:30 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2018

    A woman found dead at a house in Wolverhampton had been assaulted and items were taken from her home, police said.

    The West Midlands force is treating her death as murder and "keeping an open mind as to the motive".

    The 38-year-old, who has not been named, was found on Rookery Road in Penn, at about 16:00 on Friday.

    Further tests are being carried out after a post-mortem examination was inconclusive, police said.
