    It looks like the cold and snowy conditions are set to continue with yellow weather warnings in place until Saturday.

    The Met Office said, external there's the potential for a spell of heavy snow, along with strong winds, set to affect much of the region during Friday, before dying out on Saturday morning.

    I took these snaps in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent - it's quiet at the moment but it will get busier as we reach peak commuter time.

    Eight gritting trucks patrolled roads across Stoke-on-Trent through the night.

    So far the weather hasn't caused too much disruption to the roads, though drivers are being warned to drive with care, even on treated surfaces.

    It is very cold, and we are seeing minus temperatures on the road surfaces, so anything that does fall, there's always a chance of ice, if we don't get a treatment down. There's a lot of salt on the roads but it's just about keeping on top of that.

    For many people waking up and setting off to work this morning, you won't need to clear ice from your windscreen though.

    But why? Well despite the cold conditions, there is no moisture gathering - so there is no frost or ice forming.

    Workers from Redditch-based engineering firm GKN are to lobby MPs as part of their campaign against a takeover of by Melrose Industries.

    Members of Unite the Union will brief MPs on Wednesday.

    Melrose says it will "simplify and declutter" the aerospace and motor parts manufacturer by selling off "certain smaller businesses" and is promising to put £150m into the firm's pension scheme within 12 months of a takeover completing.

    There will be further snow showers through today. They could be heavy at times but there will be some sunny spells too. A yellow weather warning for snow is in place , externalfor most of the region although an amber warning covers the north west part of Staffordshire.

    Temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing for many, and it will feel bitterly cold - highs .3C (37F).

    Drivers are being warned that the northbound carriage of the M6 is to close tonight from 21:00 till 06:00 between junctions 6-8 for essential repairs.

    Birmingham City Council says , externalthe northbound carriageway will be shut from junction 7 to junction 8 and the entry slip road at junction 7 (Walsall and A34) will also be closed - meaning there will be no access to the M6 north or M5 south from this slip road.
