    Hurdler Andrew Pozzi and runner Shelayna Oskan-Clarke have been voted co-captains for the IAAF World Indoor Championships at Arena Birmingham.

    Stratford-upon-Avon hurdler Pozzi and Oskan-Clarke were both elected by British Athletics team-mates.

    Reigning European 60m hurdles champion Pozzi described it as "a great privilege".

    "I have been going to that exact stadium in Birmingham since I was 12, maybe younger, so my ties are really long-standing and I was really pleased to get the call."

    The championships begin on Thursday.

    Weather warnings issued by the Met Office have been upgraded to amber for parts of the West Midlands on Thursday and Friday.

    It said heavy snow could move through the region, external, with a "significant" ice build-up overnight into Friday, mainly affecting the south of the region.

    Those injured in the crash on the M6 at Great Barr have been freed from their vehicles and taken to hospital, West Midlands Fire Service has said.

    It added that delays would continue while a clean-up operation took place.

    Traffic signals are being upgraded around junction 4 of the M42.

    Solihull Council is warning drivers, external to expect delays in the area over the next few weeks, until the end of March. Temporary traffic lights are now in place.

    Worcester Warriors prop Gareth Milasinovich has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at Sixways.

    The 6ft 2 prop, who can play at tighthead or loosehead, will become English-qualified in June and becomes the 10th current first-team player to sign on ahead of the 2018-19 season.

    A Telford man has appeared in court this morning accused of murdering a woman in the town.

    Lynn McNally's body was found at a house on Mullinder Drive in the Ketley Bank area on 21 February.

    Paul Beddoes, of Mullinder Drive, appeared before a judge at Stafford Crown Court and was remanded in custody.

    A provisional trial date has been set for August.

  9. Training centre needs £50,000 to move to new homepublished at 13:13 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    A Hereford training centre for teenagers has only a few weeks to raise £50,000, so it can move to a new base.

    Horizon Training and the adjacent Cranfields Community Cafe runs courses for 65 young people, but has to move out of its building on Whitecross Road by the middle of April, because it is being sold.

    The money will be spent on building work doing and facilities for the construction, catering and beauty courses it plans to run at its new home.

    Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen says they need to start putting together a run of results and turn good performances into points, if they're to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

    Paul Lambert's team have taken the lead in their last two away games, but went on to lose at Bournemouth and draw at Leicester.

    The New Saints match against Bala Town tonight has had to be called off because of the cold weather.

    The decision was taken after a pitch inspection, but it appears to have been an easy decision to make, looking at these pictures from the club's photographer.

    The game would have featured the two form-teams in the Welsh Premier League, with TNS undefeated in 2018 and Bala only losing once - to TNS.

  12. Council failed to act on pool safety warningpublished at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    There's been criticism after it emerged a council did not act on safety concerns over a swimming baths.

    A building survey in November 2014 advised Shropshire Council to replace glass around the spectators area at Shrewsburys' Quarry Bank with toughened or laminated glass.

    The council failed to take action and in December a panel of glass smashed into the water, forcing the pool to be closed for two months for cleaning.

    The authority says it's aware of the issues raised in the building survey and they have now been addressed.

  13. Serious collision blocking M6 southboundpublished at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    Several vehicles are involved in a serious collision which is blocking the M6 southbound, said the Highways Agency.

    The carriageway is blocked within junction seven, close to Great Barr, with delays building in the area.

    Shrewsbury Town say the decision to call off tonight's cup semi final against Yeovil Town was made with the player's safety in mind.

    The pitch has been covered over but with more freezing temperatures forecast it will probably freeze again before the match, the club says.
