  1. M6 crashes: Heavy congestionpublished at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    There's still heavy congestion on the M6 through Staffordshire and Cheshire after two separate incidents closed the southbound carriageway.

    Emergency services were called to incidents involving three cars, a van and a pedestrian shortly before 23:30 between junctions 13 and 14.

    Recovery work is taking place at the site of a second incident, involving two lorries, close to junction 16 which happened at around 05:45 today.

    Diversions are in place, external and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

    Police are appealing for the return of jewellery stolen from a man who was badly beaten during a "violent burglary".

    Arthur "Bob" Gumbley, 87, was found on the floor at his home in Endwood Drive, Sutton Coldfield, on 21 November.

    He died in hospital three weeks later.

    Staffordshire Police wants to find Mr Gumbley's rings, a watch, a bracelet, a necklace, a gold coin and a "unique" fun-shaped knife.

    The West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew says he hopes he will be given time to keep the club in the Premier League.

    He'll remain in charge of West Brom for Saturday's Premier League trip to Watford.

    Owner Guochuan Lai and chief executive Mark Jenkins agree they should continue to support Pardew despite Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Huddersfield.

    Pardew's side are bottom of the Premier League, seven points from safety with 10 games remaining.

    Jeremy Corbyn will set out Labour's position on Brexit during a trip to Coventry today.

    In his speech he's exptected to say the UK should negotiate a bespoke agreement encompassing a strong new relationship with the EU single market, and membership of a customs union.

    The Conservatives have already denounced his proposals - saying they would breach promises made at the last general election.

    BBC political correspondent Ben Wright said the speech could force the government to change its position

  5. M6 crash involves pedestrianpublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    Earlier we reported the M6 southbound was shut near Stafford North. The closure is now only affecting traffic J14-J13.

    It's after a pedestrian was hit by a van.

    The northbound carriageway was also affected for a time, but Highways England says that's now fully open.

    The organisation says southbound traffic trapped on the stretch of motorway is being turned around, but the police investigation means there are "severe delays" in the area.

    We'll bring you news on that incident when we get it.

    The M6 southbound in Staffordshire is closed between junction 14, for Stafford North and junction 12 for Gailey.

    Police are investigating a serious incident involving a van, three cars and a pedestrian.

    There's a second collision involving two lorries which is blocking the carriageway between junction 17 and 16.

    Drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

    Highways England is advising drivers to avoid the area.
