    A Birmingham teacher has been given a two year suspended prison sentence after trying to meet who he thought was a underage girl for sex.

    Rajesh Lama, 48, sent sexually explicit photos of himself to the "teen" - who was actually a member of a so-called "paedophile hunters" group.

    Lama was a science teacher at Hodge Hill School.

    Baby oil, condoms and alcohol were later found in his hotel room.

    Lama has been ordered to go on a sex offender's rehabilitation programme.

  2. Fundraising for children facing loss of both parents reaches targetpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 29 March 2018

    A fundraising campaign to support two children who face being orphaned has surpassed its target of £5,000.

    Paul Maley, 44, from Balsall Common, Solihull, died on 8 March after suffering a stroke brought on by an underlying condition, while his partner of 18 years, Emma, 40, was told in February she had terminal cancer.

    Ms Maley's cousin Kate Smith, of Water Orton, Warwickshire, began a campaign to help support the couple's children as they grow up.

    The fundraising stands at more than £11,300, with the money hoped to be spent on paying for care for 14-year-old Ella, who has autism, and Louis, 16, who hopes to learn to drive.

    Sale and England wing Denny Solomona has been charged after allegedly directing homophobic abuse at a Worcester player on Saturday.

    Microphones picked up Warriors fly-half Jamie Shillcock raising the issue in the 55th minute of the Sharks' win.

    Shillcock's complaint is understood to relate to a "homophobic slur".

    He will face a disciplinary panel on 5 April and faces a minimum suspension of six weeks if found guilty.

    Major changes to child social care in Worcestershire will see the service taken out of council hands and run externally.

    An inspection by Ofsted found "widespread and serious failures" and the service was given an inadequate rating in January 2017.

    The decision was approved by the county councillors at a meeting today.

    The council admitted the move will cost more money, but cabinet member Andy Roberts said there was still a facility available to apply for funding from the government.

    A campaign to get women's changing facilities installed at a cricket club has been launched.

    Wellington Cricket Club needs to raise £10,000 to build an extension to give the female team members their own changing facilities.

    Currently the women have to wait until the men have finished using the changing rooms.

    Adrian Casey, who attends the club and came up with the idea said: "It is not right at all."

    "The women need their own area, so we are launching this campaign."

  8. Memorial fun day held for death crash brotherspublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 29 March 2018

    The school attended by two brothers who were killed when they were crossing a road has held a memorial fun day in their memory.

    Corey, six, and Casper Platt-May, two, attended Ravensdale Primary School in Coventry. They were killed in the crash last month.

    Robert Brown, 58, has admitted causing their deaths by dangerous driving.

    Coventry City footballers also attended the event at the school today and the school also held a tree-planting ceremony.

    A shop which sells alcohol has had its licence revoked after it was found in breach of licensing laws, Staffordshire Police said.

    Dartmouth Food and Wine, in Burslem, sold alcohol to a child under 15 in November 2017 and failed to implement the Challenge 25 scheme.

    The decision was made by Stoke-on-Trent City Council's licensing sub-committee after a hearing earlier today.

    Insp Karen Cooke, head of Staffordshire Police's licensing unit, said: "These breaches of the Licensing Act had to be addressed and I welcome the verdict of the committee today."

    Dartmouth Food and Wine can appeal against the decision within 21 days.

    Figures released today by Shropshire Council show its gender pay gap is slightly higher than the national average, at 21%.

    Figures have been released in response to new national legislation which requires employers with more than 250 staff to publish the information each year.

    The report shows women make up 79% of the workforce.

    The authority said almost a third of its workforce was made up of cleaning and catering staff, mainly lower paid, part-time jobs occupied by women.

    A cabinet meeting looking at child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Telford is hearing from the leader of the opposition Andrew Eade who said: "I don't want to hear any more excuses.

    "I want this council to do the right and proper thing".

    He added that CSE is "not a political issue" and he agrees with Sarah Champion of Labour, who says the council should have an inquiry.

    A cabinet meeting is taking place this evening in Telford investigating the child sexual exploitation (CSE) allegations which have made headlines in the town recently.

    Cllr Angela McClements says "we are not a council in denial...I cannot tell you how important it is that we all work together".

    She said that the council won't bring an inquiry into CSE because "we couldn't compel Shropshire Council, GPs etc to come forward....it wouldn't be under oath".

    It is understood the Stoke board are backing Lambert in his stance.

    A regency music room said to be one of Coventry's most important historic buildings, which has stood empty for more than two decades, is to be restored thanks to funding from The Prince's Foundation.

    Grade II* listed Drapers' Hall was built in 1832 as the headquarters for the city's Company of Drapers and has been used as a magistrates' court, church centre and even an air raid shelter.

    Historic Coventry Trust said, with support from the charity founded by the Prince of Wales along with Arts Council England, it hopes to open the venue for classical music performances as well as using it as a music education centre.

    The plan is for the venue to be opened in 2020, in time for the city’s tenure as UK City of Culture and comes just days after it was revealed the Trust’s Charterhouse project has received funding from the Heritage LotteryFund.
