  1. 'Small number of victims' come forward after CSE reportspublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

    West Mercia Police says it's been contacted by a "small number of victims" following the media coverage of child sex exploitation in Telford this week.

    The force says they all involve "non recent" activity and officers are offering support.

    It added that since 2016, 56 people had been arrested by its CSE team in the town, resulting in 29 charges.

    A number of investigations were ongoing, it said.

    A fire that caused "significant damage" at a house in Burton was started by tea lights on the window sill, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

    An investigation found they had set fire to curtains at the property on Blenheim Close.

    A woman in the house was uninjured, but was taken to Queens Hospital for precautionary checks.

    Revised plans have been unveiled for a new flyover on the A46 in Coventry.

    Work on the project at TGI island is expected to get under way in 2020 and take two years to complete.

  5. Another marathon called off... but antarctic runner keeps on goingpublished at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

    Stafford half marathon is the latest race to be called off this weekend after forecasts of snow and ice.

    The organisers said they consulted with local authorities and emergency services and decided it was in the best interests of spectators, competitors and volunteers that it didn't go ahead on Sunday. It is due to be held on 15 April instead.

    Sunday's Coventry half marathon has also been called off because of the weather.

    But 69-year-old Doug Richards from Redditch (pictured below) wasn't going to be put off by a bit of cold weather - he's completed a half marathon in Antarctica today, in temperatures of -3C (27F).

    It means he's run a half marathon in all seven continents.

    The Canal and River Trust says it's trying to discover what caused a large hole to open up in the Shropshire Union Canal, draining it of millions of litres of water.

    A 1.2km (0.75 miles) section near Middlewich has been affected and the Canal and River Trust said there had been no serious damage to property and most of the water had flowed into a nearby river.

    Police are still trying to work out whether a pistol found at the bottom of the empty canal is real or fake.

    Shrewsbury Town's Luke Hendrie predicts the League One promotion race will go down to the wire, with Wigan and Blackburn in a three-team battle for the two automatic spots.

    They travel to fifth-place Scunthorpe tomorrow and Hendrie said with 11 games to go, this is his favourite part of the season, because everyone knows what they're playing for.

    The former Telford Labour MP David Wright is back in politics.

    He won a place on St Georges and Priorslee parish council in a by-election last night.

    Mr Wright was elected as the Telford MP in 2001 and lost his seat to the Conservative Lucy Allan in 2015.

    A Coventry woman says her quality of life would be dramatically affected if her 24-hour care was withdrawn.

    She's been told her night-time and domestic support could be withdrawn because of funding problems.

    The city council say it's still assessing Lorraine's case and will "manage any changes sensitively".

    Herefordshire jockey Richard Johnson won his second Cheltenham Gold Cup in a thrilling race today.

    He was on the 5-1 chance Native River which gave Dorset trainer Colin Tizzard his first victory in the race after some spectacular jumping by the champion jockey.

    Johnson had a memorable battle throughout, with the King George VI Chase winner Might Bite going toe-to-toe over the 22 fences in soft ground.

    The win gave him his second Gold Cup win, 18 years after his first on Looks Like Trouble.

    I've been to the collapsed section of the Shropshire Union Canal in Cheshire and what I've seen is boats lying on top of the silt.

    Most of them are tilted inwards, pulling against their mooring ropes.

    Some people live on these boats and they're facing a long wait to get out of this situation.

    Firefighters have rescued two men who they say fell 10ft (3m) down a shaft at the Hawthorn Trading Estate in Oldbury.

    A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a house in Cheadle, Staffordshire.

    The Staffordshire force said it was called to the property on Sun Street this morning and a woman, aged 53, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The 42-year-old from Penn, also suffered a brain injury in the attack involving around ten men on Parkfield Road, in the Parkfield area of the city just before 20:00 yesterday.

    A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

    Det Insp Chris Fox, leading the investigation, said it was an “incredibly serious and violent assault, which has left a man in a critical condition with life-changing injuries".

    Tigers travel to Whitley Bay to play the Warriors tomorrow, before returning to their own rink on Sunday for the home leg.
