    Worcester Warriors' director of rugby says they've got to keep playing "really well" in their remaining three games if they're going to stay up.

    They picked up just their fourth home win of the Premiership season when they beat Newcastle 27-13 at the weekend.

    The victory for Worcester means they are nine points clear of bottom side London Irish, who picked up a bonus-point victory at Harlequins, narrowing the gap in the table by a point.

  2. 'Rogue scrap metal dealer' threatens woman with knifepublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 10 April 2018

    Police have released an image in connection with their investigation into a "rogue scrap metal dealer" who threatened a woman with a knife and stole her car.

    In Sheldon, Birmingham, on 30 March, a man knocked on her door and asked whether she'd like debris collected from outside her home, police said.

    A fee was agreed, but when he knocked on the door a short time later, and she refused to let him into her house, he forced his way inside and threatened her with a knife.

    The man then stole her Skoda Fabia, which has since been recovered and sent for forensic testing.

    The force said neighbours reported he was using a blue van to collect scrap metal.

  4. Woman remains in critical condition after church stabbingpublished at 09:27 British Summer Time 10 April 2018

    A woman who was found stabbed outside a church in the early hours of Sunday morning remains in a critical condition in hospital, West Midlands Police says.

    The force said a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

  6. Appeal for dashcam footage after fatal M5 crashpublished at 08:49 British Summer Time 10 April 2018

    Police investigating a fatal crash on the M5 northbound this morning are appealing to drivers who may have dashcam footage.

    A woman was pronounced dead at the scene in Worcestershire between J3 and J4.

    Emergency crews were called to reports of a crash between a car, in which she was travelling, and a lorry.

    The road is currently closed while investigations are carried out, West Mercia Police says.

    A spokesperson said: "Please get in touch to share what you saw.

    "Even the smallest piece of information could help our investigation into this tragic incident."

  7. Woman dies in M5 crashpublished at 08:44 British Summer Time 10 April 2018

    A woman has died in a motorway crash.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called at about 04:20 following reports of a collision between a car and lorry on the M5 in Worcestershire, between J4 and J3.

    A spokesperson said a woman in the car was in cardiac arrest and confirmed dead at the scene.

    The lorry's driver, a man, was uninjured.

  8. Football standing legislation 'ludicrous'published at 08:30 British Summer Time 10 April 2018

    West Brom wanted to introduce a safe-standing area at The Hawthorns next season but the government rejected its proposal on Monday.

    That decision has angered campaigners who argue the law is outdated.

    "The legislation surrounding standing has always been terrible. It's now ludicrous," said the Football Supporters' Federation's Peter Daykin.

    Daykin, who heads the body's safe-standing campaign, added: "The whole tenor of the debate on standing has changed massively in recent years."

    Three people have been arrested on suspicion of assault after three teenagers aged between 14 and 19 suffered stab wounds.

    West Mercia Police said it was called to a "dispute" involving the occupants of two cars on Wrockwardine Road, Wellington, Telford, yesterday afternoon.

    The arrested trio are aged between 17 and 18, police say.

    The victims' injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and investigations are continuing.

    The 25-year-old was the fastest qualifier for the final which takes place just after 10:30.

    A two-year-old boy fatally injured in a crash on Sunday has been named by police as Umar Akhalwaya.

    His mother, 32, was also seriously hurt. Police described her condition on Tuesday morning as stable.

    The toddler and his mother had been visiting family when they were hit by a Volkswagen Bora in Stoney Stanton Road at about 21:00. Three of the boy's siblings were unhurt.

    A 95-year-old woman is being treated in hospital for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

    Firefighters were called to a property, external on Honeywall Lane, in Madeley yesterday afternoon after a neighbour found the woman surrounded by thick smoke in her living room.
