    Wolves were hoping to get their Premiership season under way tonight but their meeting with Swindon at Monmore was postponed earlier this afternoon, external because of the poor weather forecast.

    The fixture has been rearranged for Monday 16 July.

    Wolves are now set to open their season on Wednesday at Kings Lynn.

    Shrewsbury Town captain Mat Sadler (pictured) has urged his teammates to use their Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Wembley as extra motivation to push for automatic promotion from League One.

    On their fourth visit to Wembley, Shrewsbury suffered their fourth defeat as League Two Lincoln City won 1-0.

    Returning to their promotion push, Shrewsbury face Bradford City on Thursday night having dropped back into third place, just outside the automatic spots.

    There will be overnight closures on the M6 southbound from tonight until 13 April as part of a scheme to upgrade the motorway.

    Highways England's wider Smart Motorway project, expected to cost up to £335m, will see hard shoulders opened up to traffic at peak times and electronic signs fitted on gantries.

    Junctions 15 to 14 will see closures 22:00-05:00 till the end of the week as part of the work.

    The mayor of the West Midlands is encouraging people to back a scheme which will give homeless people free access to public transport, saying "freedom to travel is very important".

    The day passes from National Express West Midlands will come in the form of a scratch cards handed out by agencies that work with rough sleepers.

    The Alex have taken 10 points from their last five games and are 11 points clear of relegation with four games to play.

    Their latest game saw them race into a 4-1 lead over Mansfield Town by halftime, although Crewe were hanging on for a 4-3 win at the end.

    When high speed rail comes to Crewe - there are going to be some big changes to the station.

    The line’s due to be built in nine years, so those in charge have got to start thinking about it now.

    A few weeks ago, the government approved plans for up to seven HS2 trains per hour to stop at Crewe, known as a hub station.

    The plans include new platforms to the east, new footbridges and demolition for some of the 20th Century additions.

    It's amazing what you can do with a bundle of matchsticks, coffee stirrers and some rabbit hutch wire.

    It's taken more than 500 hours of painstaking work by Chris Jepson, from Kidderminster to create a replica model of Molineux from the 1960s.

    Chris is hoping to sell the mini stadium to raise money for charity.

    Front-line police officers' jobs have been protected in Warwickshire, after a rise in council tax, according to the police and crime commissioner.

    More than 20,000 homes with planning permission are yet to be built in east Cheshire.

    Cheshire East Council says it's given the go-ahead to 20,441 houses, with some approvals dating back to 2010 without a brick being laid.

    The authority says it doesn't believe developers are "land banking" in their area - the hoarding of land until it increases in value.

    A council spokesman says the authority is working to speed up more projects but admits it has concerns that some developers have applied for new planning permissions, despite sitting on old ones.

    Uttoxeter's Adam Peaty admits he's been "off my best all week" after suffering a surprise defeat at the Commonwealth Games.

    He claimed silver in the men's 50m breaststroke.

    South African Van der Burgh claimed gold at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in a time of 26.58 seconds, while 23-year-old Peaty clocked 26.62.

    It was a shock loss for Peaty who had been tipped to add a second gold after his victory in the 100m breaststroke.

    A man who repeatedly stabbed his ex-partner in the neck with a kitchen knife has been jailed for 10 years.

    Police say Ms Henshall, 57, still suffers pain related to severed tendons in her neck.

    The Staffordshire force said Weaver cut his own throat after he struck and when officers arrived, both were found to be in need of emergency surgery, with Ms Henshall's fingers on one hand "hanging off" as a result of defence injuries.

    Weaver was arrested when he came out of an induced coma last May and pleaded guilty to wounding with intent in September at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

    Today, at Stafford Crown Court, he was jailed for 10 years with a further four years to serve on licence. He was also made subject of an indefinite restraining order.

    The women were waiting for a bus on Thursday evening at Newcastle-under-Lyme's bus station when it happened.

    Officers said they'd seen the man urinating in the street before he came over to them, spat at them and abused them.
