    The fire service's animal rescue team was called after the 22-year-old escaped her field in the Penkridge area of Staffordshire and then got stuck.

    They say a vet sedated her while they hoisted her free, adding that the horse is expected to make a full recovery.

    A petition calling for Premier League and Championship clubs to introduce safe-standing has hit the 100,000 mark needed to trigger a Parliament debate on the subject.

    Officers say they were acting on a tip-off when they stopped the Honda Civic in the early hours on the A34 in Stone, Staffordshire.

    Two men and a woman from Stoke-on-Trent were arrested for offences including suspicion of possession of a controlled drug and possession of an offensive weapon.

    A cordon remains in place at a property in Brookside Avenue, Coventry where an army bomb disposal team carried out an investigation yesterday.

    Eight homes were evacuated while the Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal work alongside West Midlands Police.

    A 20-year-old man held under the Explosives Act remains in custody this afternoon and continues to help police with inquiries following his arrest.

    A small fire at the scene yesterday evening was the result of a controlled disposal of a substance on scrap land.

    Hammerson and Intu have officially called off a £3.4bn deal that would have created Britain's biggest property company.

    Hammerson, the owner of the Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres in Birmingham, last week withdrew a recommendation calling on shareholders to back the acquisition, prompting Intu's board to announce on Wednesday it would not proceed.

    Intu said it was releasing Hammerson of its obligation to follow through with the deal.

    The offer period has now ended, leading to the lapse of the acquisition.

    Hammerson said last week the takeover was "no longer in the best interest of shareholders", citing growing dismay over the health of the UK retail property market.

    The Astrophysics Group says it absorbs 99% of light making it darker than charcoal.

    The planet is orbiting a yellow dwarf star 470 light-years away from Earth.

    "WASP-104b is interesting because it was not even seen," Lead researcher Teo Mocnik said.

    "All planets reflect starlight from their host star. Some planets are highly reflective, such as Venus reflecting 70% of the light, while some others reflect only 10%.

    The MP for Coventry north east, Colleen Fletcher, has called on the prime minister to support a campaign by the Anthony Nolan charity, external which wants to recruit more young people to join the stem cell donor register.

    Ms Fletcher (pictured) said in the weekly Prime Minister's Questions that research showed having a younger stem cell donor improved a patient's chance of surviving post transplant.

    She said 1,000 people in her constituency had already signed up to be donors.

    Theresa May told the House of Commons that the Anthony Nolan charity had "done excellent work over many years" and that she would look into the campaign.

    Police are appealing for information after a man indecently exposed himself and assaulted a member of train staff in Nuneaton.

    British Transport Police said it happened in the waiting room of Nuneaton Rail Station at about 20:30 on 8 April.

    The man then boarded a train to Crewe, before exposing himself again as he walked through a full train carriage.

    He later injured the train driver by hitting him on the nose with his mobile phone, after leaving the train at Atherstone.

    The man is believed to be white, 5ft 8 with short brown curly hair and was wearing a khaki green track suit.

    A girl who's undergone a rare operation that has seen her lower leg attached backwards directly on to her thigh has described the procedure as "scary".

    Seven-year-old Amelia Eldred, from Tamworth, who was diagnosed with bone cancer, underwent the operation earlier this year and is still going through chemotherapy.

    I asked her Kingsbury Primary pupil if she felt brave, she told me "I'd like to think I was".

    "I didn't really know what was happening but the further we want, the more and more I got to know more about it," she said.

    She said what surgeon's have done is "amazing".

    Ultimately the doctors hope to use Amelia's heel to attach a prosthetic leg.
