    The RSPCA says it was called to 17 incidents in the West Midlands over reports that dogs were locked in hot cars.

    Across England the RSPCA received more than 200 reports, external over the three-day weekend.

    Anyone who sees a dog in a hot environment is urged to report it to emergency services, calling 999, says the the RSPCA.

    Temperatures reached 28C and marks the hottest Early May Bank Holiday weekend since the holiday was introduced in 1978.

  3. Resignation calls over "delusional" parking schemepublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    Demands are being made for someone to resign over car parking confusion in Coventry.

    Yesterday adjudicators branded the city council "delusional" and said its restricted parking scheme was not understood by motorists.

    The council insists the measure is enforceable, despite issuing 60,000 parking tickets in six years, and said it is considering challenging the traffic tribunal's findings.

    This morning, Conservative councillor Tim Mayer told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire his group are looking to call a meeting to ask for the resignation of Labour councillor Jayne Innes, who has responsibility for roads and signs.

    West Bromwich Albion's relegation from the Premier League has been confirmed.

    The Baggies' hopes of survival ended last night as Southampton beat Swansea, making it mathematically impossible for them to stay up.

    They travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday for the final game of the season, but will join Stoke City in the Championship next season.

    A scheme to install safety measures at the scene of a horrific road accident is to be looked at in greater detail.

    More than 28,000 people backed a petition, external for improving safety at Belgrave Middleway in Birmingham after six people were killed in a three-car crash in December.

    A business management committee has agreed it would be better if a small panel of city councillors spent time investigating possible safety measures, following a meeting yesterday.

    A foundation to help people threatened with deportation after being incorrectly identified as illegal immigrants has been set up.

    It's been named after Paulette Wilson who was held in Yarls Wood for several days despite arriving in the UK from Jamaica in 1968.

    The Paulette Wilson Windrush Citizenship Project, in Wolverhampton, is offering to help those who are at threat of deportation and in need of help.

    It is being backed by the city council and a team of skilled immigration caseworkers who will be on hand help people apply for British citizenship.

    More than 120 tonnes of aid, which includes food and blankets, has been collected for people suffering in war torn Syria.

    Two containers packed with items for those in desperate need, will leave for Syria later on.

    The charity Crisis Aid, along with the Bearded Brothers from Small Heath, external, Birmingham, say they've been overwhelmed by the generosity of local communities.

    More than 1,000 women from mid and south Cheshire were not sent invitations for routine breast cancer screening.

    Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which runs Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich and Elmhurst in Winsford said 1,400 women failed to receive breast cancer screening invitations between their 68th and 71st birthday.

    Last week, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced up to 270 women in England may have died as a result of the national computer error.

    Coventry City Council said it is "instructing a barrister" to see what grounds it has to challenge the findings of an independent traffic tribunal over it's city centre Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ).

    The scheme, introduced in 2012, was "unenforcable" said the Traffic Penalty Tribunal, after looking at five parking appeals against the council.

    Almost 60,000 parking tickets were issued since the scheme was introduced, which, the adjudicator said, "should be evidence enough that the over-large RPZ is not readily understood by motorists".

    In a statement the council said the scheme "remains fully approved by the Department for Transport" and "continues to be enforceable".

  17. Police seek to block opening of new nightclubpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    Police are opposing plans to re-open a nightclub that was shut down after a gun was brandished at the venue.

    Prisma on Bristol Street, Birmingham, had its licence suspended following the incident in January when a man's face was also cut open during a fight.

    Police say re-opening the venue as Domus - for which an application has been submitted - would simply replicate its predecessor.

    A council sub-licensing committee will determine the application next Monday.

    It proposes the venue remains open until 05:30 seven days a week.
