    A 59-year-old man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in a river in Nantwich, police say.

    Cheshire Police said it was called to Riverside at about 18:00 after two swimmers were seen in trouble.

    One swimmer was rescued by a member of the public.

    Police said a helicopter, a dog unit, an underwater search and a specialist fire and rescue team were used to locate the other. His body was discovered at 21:10.

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging people not to swim in open water, external.

    A commemorative paving stone has been unveiled in Oswestry in honour of a man awarded the Victoria Cross in the Great War.

    Harold Whitfield received the honour for storming and capturing a Turkish machine gun post single-handedly.

    Three fire crews were called to the blaze in the single storey building in Hollinswood area of Deepdale, Shropshire, yesterday evening.

    A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries following a crash near Evesham.

    It happened at about 11:25 yesterday when a brown Ford Mondeo collided with a red Honda motorbike on the A44 near the Chadbury Farm Shop.

    Police want to hear from anyone who saw what happened.

    Oswestry's maternity unit will be shut for births until 20 May.

    The unit it still open to daytime antenatal and postnatal care.

    Last year the unit closed due to staff sickness and staff shortages and is continuing to experience issues.

    The Archbishop of Canterbury is taking inspiration from a Stormzy song as he prepares for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

    The Most Rev Justin Welby will officiate at the cermoney on 19 May and told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire that grime artist Stormzy's song Blinded By Your Grace was helping him in the run-up .

    "There's a line in that - 'I stay prayed up and get the job done' - I think that sort of sums it up," he said.

    A double amputee says he's been waiting for more than two years for a stairlift to his first floor apartment.

    Stephen Sadler, who has lost an arm and a leg, says he has to crawl down a shared staircase to leave. He is also awaiting modifications to his bathroom.

    When he bought the flat on the outskirts of Hereford he was an able-bodied GP. Mr Sadler lost his limbs after developing the condition body dysmorphic disorder.

    I haven't left my flat for three months. To get upstairs to my first floor flat I have to crawl across the ground and go on my bum up the stairs. I can't tell you how many bruises I've had from that.

    Herefordshire Council say they're urgently working to speed up the process and say there have been delays due to complications from the committee which run the listed building.

    The council says it will soon start work on to create a wet room.

    In recent months we've covered several stories about paramedics coming under fire - from the paramedic who was bitten while treating a patient to an abusive note left on the windscreen of an ambulance.

    Today - we've got better news... A thank you note was left on the vehicle of two ambulance workers in Uttoxeter which read "Big hugs to you all in the ambulance service. You do a fantastic job."
