    Safety measures on a stretch of road in Birmingham where six people lost their lives are to be discussed at a meeting later.

    Three vehicles were involved in the accident on Belgrave Middleway, near Edgbaston, in December.

    A 28,000 signature petition calling for speed cameras was given to the city council in February.

    Representatives are meeting with police to decide whether the matter should be referred to the full council because of overwhelming public interest.

    Pioneering surgery using a patient's own cells to repair knee damage, has been carried out in Birmingham.

    Dan McKenzie, 30, had treatment on his left leg after injuring both knees in a football match six years ago.

    The technique, carried out at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, involves regrowing the patient's own tissue in a lab before reimplanting it.

    The cells then grow into new cartilage.

    He hopes following the treatment he will be able to play sport once again.

    When Eleanor Harris made a new year's resolution to cut plastic from her life, she wasn't sure if she would stick with it.

    But the psychology teacher from Wolverhampton said it has been "embarrassingly easy" to find plastic-free alternatives to her usual shopping.

    She also reckons her new buying habits have saved her a lot of money.

    Final negotiations are being held over a UK leg of the global all-electric racing series which could see a race being held in Birmingham in 2019, West Midlands Metro Mayor Andy Street said.

    The Formula 3000 Super Prix was staged in the city between 1986 and 1990 and attracted crowds of thousands.
