    The head of Hereford's new university has been speaking in Parliament about the lack of women in engineering.

    Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon told the Skills Commission Inquiry that there's a huge shortfall of talented engineers in the UK and many teenagers are being put off because they don't want to study maths or physics at A Level.

    The new engineering university being created in Hereford aims to encourage people to develop their maths skills in different ways and they're particularly keen to attract members of the armed forces.

    The university's new name, campus and curriculum are due to be announced this year.

    Passenger numbers at Birmingham Airport have dipped in the first three months of 2018, compared with the same period last year, official figures show.

    A report due to be presented to the airport’s consultative committee next week says a hole was left by the high-profile collapse of Monarch in October last year.

    It adds that the airline was the airport’s third largest customer, carrying around 1.5 million passengers each year.

    According to the data, the number of people arriving and departing fell by a little over 4% in January to March (2,368,315 this year, compared with 2,489,220 in the equivalent period of 2017).

    A temporary classroom could be in place at a popular Hartshill school in time for the new school year in September.

    Warwickshire County Council could be asked to turn some of the wide grass verges on the surrounding roads into parking places to help cater for the rising numbers.

    Michael Drayton Junior School, on The Woodlands in the centre of the village, currently has 500 pupils but extra space is needed to deal with children moving into new homes being built in their catchment areas of Galley Common, Ansley Common and Camp Hill.

    The county council has applied to North Warwickshire District Council to site the portakabin on the school playground as a temporary measure until a planned extension is built.

    Staffordshire Police says, external it was called to St John's Primary School in Trent Vale at about 13:00.

    A woman in a nearby gym car park was assaulted as someone tried to steal her car.

    Members of the public detained a man until the police arrived.

    The arrested man is said to be receiving medical support.

    A man's been taken to hospital after a fight broke out involving wooden bats and metal bars.

    Police were called to St Josephs Road in Ward End, Birmingham, at 20:45 last night.

    The 23-year-old is being treated for head, leg and arm injuries, which aren't thought to be life threatening.

    Another man suffered an arm injury.
