    There's reports of shots being fired in Coventry this afternoon, West Midlands Police say.

    A 24-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his neck and has been taken to hospital. His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

    The area around Victoria Street in the Hillfields area has been cordoned off since 17:00.

  3. Warning of more flooding to comepublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 1 June 2018

    The Environment Agency has a number of flood alerts in place, external for Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire and it's warning there could be more problems tomorrow, if there is further heavy rain.

    It also has also issued a flood warning for the River Dene at Walton in Warwickshire, saying there could be some flooding to property.

    The Potteries shopping centre in Stoke-on-Trent is celebrating its 30th birthday today.

    It took three years and three million locally sourced bricks to build in 1988.

    Hundreds of residents may have objected, but plans for a new waste-burning power plant still look set to be approved.

    The application is for a 10,000 sq m (2.5 acre) facility, external with a 100m (328 ft) high chimney stack on Kelvin Way, West Bromwich, on land owned by Giffords Recycling Ltd.

    The proposal says it would burn 395,000 tonnes of rubbish each year, using steam turbines to generate electricity.

    But 450 people have signed a petition against the plans and local MP Tom Watson has also written to his councillors with his concerns.

    Forty one new jobs are expected to be created due to the plant, with 100 more during the construction phase.

    Officers with Sandwell Council are recommending it is approved and councillors will meet on 6 June to make a decision.

    Police investigating an attempt by thieves to cut their way into a cash machine in Hereford have released this CCTV image of a car they want to trace.

    The raid, involving three men in balaclavas, happened at the Texaco garage on Ledbury Road at 03:45 on 21 May.

    They had to flee empty handed after failing to break in and this car was seen in the area at the time.

    West Mercia Police said it appears to be a blue Audi S5 and that it may have "substantial front end damage".

    Extra armed police are going to be on the streets of Wolverhampton this weekend , externalin response to reports of recent violence.

    Police said there had been reports of shots fired last night near Shelley Road, while Keelan Wilson was killed following reports of disorder involving a group of youths on Langley Road on Tuesday night.

    The 15-year-old's death is one of a series of shootings and stabbings in the force area in the last month.

    As part of the murder investigation, police say they are studying CCTV images, have sent items to be forensically tested and received information from several people.

    Yesterday, Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson spoke out to highlight measures being taken to combat violent crime, particularly knife attacks.

    The price of potatoes and chips could rise, a farmer in Staffordshire is warning, because of the recent wet weather and the earlier "Beast from the East" last winter.

    It's also led to an increase in potato blight, he says, rotting the tubers and putting him a month behind where he should be, which could affect food prices.

    A senior West Midlands Police officer has joined others on social media criticising cosmetics company Lush over a new campaign.

    The firm says it is highlighting "the ongoing undercover policing scandal, where officers have infiltrated the lives, homes and beds of activists".

    In response to criticism, Lush said it was not "an anti-police campaign".

    But Ch Supt Chris Todd, Director of Intelligence for West Midlands Police, called the campaign "hugely damaging and insulting".

  14. Timelapse footage of bridge being replacedpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 1 June 2018

    Worcestershire County Council has produced this timelapse footage of a 1,500-tonne bridge being manoeuvred into place on the A4440 Southern Link Road in Worcester.

    The A4440 closed last Thursday so work to replace a railway bridge could be completed.

    It's part of the project to make the route a dual carriageway and this stage of work was finished 36 hours ahead of schedule.

    The trade union's general secretary Mick Cash said his members were facing public anger "without a shred of support" from Mr Grayling or Northern's management.

    Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham told the BBC he understands Northern will introduce an emergency timetable.

    A spokesman for Northern said there would be "amended services" from Monday.

  18. Family's heartbreak at boy's M6 deathpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 1 June 2018

    An eight-year-old boy who died following a collision on the M6 last night has been named as Dev Naran from Leicester.

    His parents have described him as a "kind and compassionate angel" who "excelled at school and wanted to become a doctor".

    The Leicester City fan looked after his brother Neel who suffered brain damage at birth, his family said.

    Dev was was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision between a lorry and a red Toyota Yaris, which is believed to have stopped on the hard shoulder between junctions 6 and 5 southbound.

    A man and a woman from the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    A 62-year-old lorry driver from Hampshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released while further investigations are carried out.
