    It comes after the Chief Medical Officer concluded there is a therapeutic benefit.

    The decision comes in light of recent cases such as Alfie Dingley, from Kenilworth, who has been issued with a licence to receive cannabis-based drugs.

    Cannabis for recreational use will remain illegal, the government said.

  3. Man denies perverting course of justice over confused pensionerpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    A man has denied perverting the course of justice by claiming not to know the identity of an American pensioner found in a confused state in Hereford city centre.

    It's alleged 52-year-old Simon Gary Hayes, from Ivy House Park in Taunton lied to the police by claiming to have found American pensioner Earl Roger Curry in the street in 2015.

    He appeared before Worcester Crown Court to deny four charges today.

    Mr Curry was identified by British police five months after being admitted to hospital in Hereford, following national and international appeals for information.

    When he was found near the city's bus station, police said Mr Curry had no identity papers or cards on him.

    Mr Hayes will now face trial on April 8 next year.

    Shrewsbury Town have arranged behind-closed-doors friendlies against Kidderminster Harriers and Burnley, as they prepare for the start of the League One season.

    The Kidderminster match will be played on Wednesday 11 July with the game against Premier League side Burnley on Tuesday 17 July.

    A former colleague of one of the British cave divers credited with finding missing Thai children, said he was "not surprised" he was successful in finding them.

    Station Commander Alex Daw, from West Midlands Fire Service told BBC News since retiring, Richard Stanton had taken up his cave diving and rescue operations "full time".

    Mr Stanton left the force in Coventry after serving for 25 years.

    Alongside his career in the fire service, the cave diving was a "passion of his," he said.

    "He's a very calm gentleman, very knowledgeable and experienced, and he was well-trained in what he continues to do now."

    A coroner has said he expects a post mortem to conclude 13-year-old Ryan Evans from Stoke-on-Trent died of drowning.

    Ian Smith told the opening of the inquest into the boys death that he was still waiting for the formal conclusion of that examination.

    Ryan's body was found in Westport Lake last Wednesday, two days after being spotted in distress.

    Birmingham City Council has lodged an application with its planning department to tear down Heath House in Druids Heath.

    The 12-storey block on Baverstock Road was built in 1966 and provides 50 homes but it has been deemed "surplus to requirements".

    Demolition is to be completed by February.
