    A 54-year-old man who was attacked in his own home in Kidderminster on Saturday suffered "severe injuries", police said.

    It happened on Abbey Road at about 21:25.

    The West Mercia force described the attack as a "violent home invasion".

    Delap has rejoined Rowett after working with him previously at Derby County and said: "It's going to be his way, he's been successful with it so far, everywhere he's been, so he knows his system works."

    The planned Midland Metropolitan Hospital, which is already three years behind schedule, could be further away than ever, a report says.

    The site, in Smethwick, was supposed to open in January 2019 but the collapse of construction company Carillion set the estimates back to 2022.

    People are being warned in the sunny weather not to leave mirrors near windows after a bedroom fire.

    The fire service said "significant damage" had been caused to the building on Brookside Road in Barton-under-Needwood.

    The sun's rays hitting a mirror on a windowsill was said to be the likely cause.

  13. Thieves take 500 litres of diesel from farmpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Thieves have stolen 500 litres of diesel from a farm near Weston-under-Lizard.

    It is believed to have been taken overnight and West Mercia Police said they were alerted when a pick up truck was spotted getting into difficulty while attempting to drive through a nearby wheat field.

    When they reached the vehicle the occupants had gone, Checks revealed it had been stolen in Staffordshire on 1 July.

    It's not clear if the stolen vehicle was used in the raid, and the fuel hasn't been found yet, but officers recovered a crow bar and a pair of bolt cutters.

    Four men armed with knives entered the shop on The Square in Alvechurch at 10:45 on 1 July and took money and cigarettes, West Mercia Police say.

  16. Inquiry into link road land purchase this autumnpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    A seven-day public inquiry into plans for Herefordshire's Southern Link Road will start on 30 October.

    It has been called after several objections to compulsory purchase orders for land along the proposed route, between the A49 Ross Road and A465 Abergaenny Road.

    Herefordshire Council, which is putting the plans forward, has promised to present a "robust case for the road".

    It said previously it was working with all landowners to try and reach agreement for the acquisition of land and which is "mainly agricultural land with no homes or buildings".

  17. Search for commissioner to oversee child sex inquirypublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Organisations and individuals are being invited to bid to run Telford's independent investigation into child sex exploitation.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it wants the winning bidder to define how the inquiry will run and appoint an independent chair.

    The authority is looking for this independent commissioner to avoid any possible accusations it is influencing the findings.

    The contract will be awarded on Friday 24 August, with work due to begin in early September.

  18. The Coventry firefighter behind the Thai caves searchpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    A British cave diver, who helped locate missing Thai children, was a firefighter with the West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) for over 25 years.

    Richard Stanton retired from the force in 2014 after serving at the Coventry and Canley stations.

    He was awarded the MBE in the 2013 New Years Honours list in recognition of his service to communities of the West Midlands, and for his voluntary cave diving rescue services.

    In 2011 Richard was also voted "Hero of the Year" at the WMFS’ Aspire Awards ceremony.
