    A signalling fault is also affecting services between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton, said West Midlands Railway.

    Three men forced entry to a house in Warwick, before threatening the occupants and making off with cash and keys to a car, police said.

    The robbery took place at about 00:30 on Sunday 15 July, at a house on Kilnsey Grove, Warwick.

    Det Cons Nic Mort, frrom Warwickshire Police said the victims had been left "extremely shaken" as a result of "this terrifying ordeal".

    Officers believe the vehicle, a blue BMW, may still be in the area.

    Work has begun to extend a theatre in Tamworth as part of a multimillion-pound project to modernise the venue.

    Assembly rooms

    The 128-year-old Assembly Rooms will be expanded to provide a multi-use space and greater backstage area.

    It's hoped this will also provide opportunities for it to be used for a wider range of events.

    The new building will start to take shape in the coming months.

    A police officer is due in court today charged with assault after two women were arrested by a bus station.

    PC Kevin McClenaghan, from the West Midlands force, faces two charges of assault followig the arrest after a disturbance near Halesowen bus station on 22 December.

    He is also accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to a witness statement about the incident, the police watchdog said.

    He is due at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.

    Problems at a Worcestershire hospital trust have led to calls for a national review of how long hospitals take to report results of patients' x-rays and scans.

    Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust is one of three highlighted, as being too slow to pass on patients’ results to clinical staff.

    The Care Quality Commission says national standards should be set to avoid late or missed diagnosis of medical problems.

    Backlogs and delays to radiology reporting were felt to be putting patients at risk at Worcester Royal Hospital, it said.

    Two years ago, a backlog of 11,000 X-ray results were discovered at the hospital trust during an unannounced inspection.

    MPs have called on government to fund the fitting of sprinklers in high-rise tower blocks in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

    Seventy two people died in the fire in June 2017. A public inquiry is looking at the adequacy of regulations, the tower's refurbishment, and the response of authorities in the aftermath.

    In May, Birmingham City Council approved plans to retrofit sprinklers in 213 tower blocks, despite the expected £31m bill.

    At the time, council leader Ian Ward said he was disappointed no central funding would be made available despite his cross-party request.

    Today, among other measures, external, the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee said "sprinklers should be fitted to all high-rise residential buildings" and that the "government should make funding available for installation in council and housing association-owned buildings".

    This morning Mr Ward was quick to highlight the committee's call, external.

  12. Dashcam appeal after motorcyclist dies in crashpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 18 July 2018

    Police are appealing for dashcam footage after the death of a motorcyclist in a crash in Kidderminster last night.

    The man hit a road barrier on Comberton Hill at around 21:00 and died at the scene.

  13. Housing estate clock to be replaced after nearly 40 yearspublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 18 July 2018

    A clock tower in Telford which was erected when the Priorslee estate was built in the early 1980s is going to be dismantled and replaced.

    St Georges and Priorslee Parish Council said the work would be carried out next week and a "replacement clock feature" will take its place next spring.

    The council said the tower, which has been fenced off in February because of safety concerns, "was constructed out of low grade building materials that had a limited lifetime" and that it is now beyond repair.

    West Midlands Police has started a murder investigation after the 46-year-old man was killed in Olton on Monday evening.

    Officers say they are now looking for a dark coloured VW Golf, which sped away from Warwick Road in Olton after hitting the man.

    Firefighters have now left the scene of a large woodland fire on the Stiperstones after spending the day hosing it down to prevent it from reigniting.

    A final inspection will take place there later this evening, to make sure it's safe.

  18. Council to phase out use of disposable plasticspublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 18 July 2018

    Worcester City Council will phase out disposable plastics by the end of October.

    The authority decided to stop using them in bottles, straws and cups, after a motion was put forward by councillor Neil Laurenson.

    Fitness trackers are being placed on cows in a bid to learn more about their behaviour.

    Researchers at Harper Adams University say it will enable farmers to monitor their behaviour and know when the best time to inseminate the cows is.
