    Shropshire Council has admitted mistakes have been made over an £80,000 grant given to The New Saints football club.

    TNS got the money six years ago "on the understanding it would be repaid" but only £10,000 was returned, three years later.

    An audit report, now released by the council, says mistakes were made in tracing the repayments due to a high turnover of staff, but found no evidence of fraud.

    The football club says it’s met all its commitments under the agreement.

    A south Shropshire councillor is calling on the local authority to abandon plans to charge for on-street parking in Ludlow until 20:00 in the evening.

    Cannabis plants with a street value put at £150,000 have been found by police who raided a property in Wellington, Shropshire, this morning.

    West Mercia Police said between 200 and 300 plants had been seized along with a "substantial amount of dried cannabis".

    Eurosceptic MP for North Shropshire, Owen Paterson says he is "exasperated" over progress on Brexit and has told the Prime Minister to "just get on with it".

    Theresa May is facing questions from MPs today about her plans for leaving the European Union after a series of votes on Brexit exposed the divisions in her own party.

    Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says he would like to forge new links with Liverpool and might take on a loan player from them.

    The two teams will train alongside each other this afternoon, with Artell saying he thinks both clubs can benefit from the experience.

    A rare postcard sent from the Titanic is up for sale at a Warwick auction house today.

    The "wish you where here" card was posted at Cobh in Ireland as the liner embarked on its ill-fated Atlantic crossing.

    The postcard was one of the last to be written on board the Titanic.

    The writer, Sarah Daniels, survived the crossing and lived the rest of her life in Canada - she sent the card to a relative.

    It is expected to raise between £15,000 and £20,000.

  10. First chamber of modern-day burial mound completepublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 18 July 2018

    The first of four stone chambers is now complete at the site of a modern-day long barrow at Soulton Hall near Wem.

    It has stone pillars, shelves and a domed roof, and will house people's cremated ashes as an alternative to modern memorials and cemeteries.

    The chamber is aligned to be lit by sunrise on the summer solstice and the sunset on the winter solstice and the first chamber is already 40% reserved.

  11. Giraffe statue removed after vandalismpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 18 July 2018

    One of the giraffe sculptures forming a trail around Worcester has been removed after being damaged.

    Sara Matthews, the project manager for the Worcester Stands Tall trail, said she was "very disappointed" and that the incident had been reported to the police.

    Ms Matthews added Gregory the Giraffe, which stood in The Cross had been "removed from the trail for the safety of the public and will now be assessed for repairs".

    Nearly 60 giraffes have been painted by artists and placed around the city, ahead of being auctioned off to raise money for a new home for St Richard's Hospice.

    Two masked robbers armed with knives have raided the Tesco Express store on Birmingham Road in Shenstone this morning.

    Staffordshire Police said they forced a lone staff member to open one of the tills at 07:00 and took cash and cigarettes.

    Two men have been charged with affray in connection with the death of 42-year-old Derek Whyteside in Telford last month.

    He died after being assaulted in Withywood Drive in Malinslee.

    A 16-year-old has been charged with murder and previously appeared at Stafford Crown Court where he was remanded in custody.

    Three people have been injured, one seriously, after a barbeque flared up at Hopton Wafers in Shropshire last night.

    An elderly man was flown to hospital in Birmingham with what were described as "very serious burns".
