    Investigations are continuing after a 28-year-old man died and another man, 54, was seriously injured in a stabbing.

    They were found at a house in Sandmere Road, Yardley Wood, Birmingham in the early hours of yesterday morning.

    The pair suffered critical injuries - the younger man died in the ambulance, while the other remains in hospital.

    Police said the men were known to each other and they are not looking for anyone else following the incident.

    Disruption is expected to last until 09:30, said National Rail.

    Farmers with machinery were called on to help fire crews tackle a large grass fire at Burleydam, Whitchurch, close to the Cheshire/Shropshire border yesterday.

    About 20 firefighters, with limited water supplies, used beaters to deal with the "rapidly spreading" fire, said Cheshire Fire Service, after being called to the site at 16:20.

  4. 'Lucky' escape for family after wall collapsepublished at 08:09 British Summer Time 16 July 2018

    A family from Redditch is living in temporary accommodation after the back wall of their house collapsed.

    Part of a building on the corner of Mount Pleasant and Beaufort Street came down late on Saturday night.

    Neighbouring properties were evacuated while the house was made safe.

    Part of the street remains closed this morning.

    The cause of the damage is not yet known and engineers are examining the site.

    Marius Bolboceanu, who lives on the upper floor with his young family, said they were "lucky" to escape unhurt.

  5. Funeral for lake death boypublished at 07:59 British Summer Time 16 July 2018

    The funeral of a teenage boy who died after swimming in a lake in Stoke-on-Trent takes place today.

    Ryan Evans, 13, died after getting into trouble at Westport Lake in June.

    Members of the public are invited to the service at Holy Trinity Church in Burslem at 13:00.

  6. 'Claw-hammer' attack teen due in courtpublished at 07:43 British Summer Time 16 July 2018

    A 17-year-old is due in court charged with attempted murder, after a teenager was attacked with a claw-hammer.

    Police said the victim, also 17, was attacked after an argument in Bilston Street, Wolverhampton on Thursday.

    He suffered serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital after emergency surgery.

    The charged boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear before magistrates in Walsall.

    Another teenager arrested in connection with the attack has been released on bail.

  7. Dashcam appeal after fatal M6 lorry crashpublished at 07:31 British Summer Time 16 July 2018

    Officers investigating the death of a man on the M6 in Staffordshire yesterday are appealing for people with dashcam footage to come forward.

    The southbound carriageway was shut for nearly four hours after the crash involving a lorry between junctions 13 and 14 at Stafford at about 12:30.

    A man was confirmed dead half an hour later.

    Fire crews in Shropshire have been dealing with a barn fire in the Wellington area overnight.

    Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews prevented fire spreading to nearby buildings and equipment after being called to Rushton, near the Wrekin.

    Crews also dealt with grass and hedge fires in Lilleshall and Stirchley.
