    A new, £325,000 pavilion has been opened in Worcester's Gheluvelt Park.

    It was built by the city council and includes a community room, toilets and an ice cream kiosk.

    After strong criticism from Shrewsbury's MP and town council, the company behind the refurbishment of Pride Hill says the work is back on track.

    The Casey Group said there were "initial delays" when their excavations turned up more than they expected, and subsequently "upped its workforce".

    MP Daniel Kawczynski said the work was progressing too slowly and that there was a danger it might not be complete until autumn 2019, nearly a year over schedule.

    But the company is confident the job, which includes improvements to the pavement, should be finished by November this year.

    Warwick District Council will miss the July deadline for publishing its audited statement of accounts, because auditors have found a number of errors.

    A report to its Finance and Audit Scrutiny Committee said personnel changes in the council’s finance department may have led to the errors.

    Auditors Grant Thornton explained that while there were no financial penalties for missing the deadline, there would be an increase in audit costs with extra time being spent checking the figures.

    From 1 August aggressive drunks and beggars in West Bromwich town centre could be fined up to £1,000.

    Sandwell Council agreed earlier this week to set up a Public Spaces Protection Order for the area.

    The order will last for three years and was brought in after a six-week consultation which highlighted fears over drunken violence, begging, threatening behaviour and nuisance parking.

    It will allow fixed penalty orders to be issued to people breaking the terms of the order and could lead to fines of up to £1,000 for offenders who are taken to court.

    Another 2,400 body-worn cameras will be issued to West Midlands Police officers this summer.

    The cameras, which clip on to their clothing, are already used by about 1,500 officers on the force.

    West Midlands Police said since they first became part of the routine kit 18 months ago, the technology had "made a significant impact on policing".

    The new cameras will cost the force nearly £4m.

    At a meeting in November 2017 Bishop's Itchington Parish Councillors heard there were "outstanding legal matters to be resolved" before the transfer of land went ahead.

    "The site will be managed by the WWT team based at Brandon Marsh who will run events on site and engage with the local community," the papers show.

    Warwickshire Wildlife Trust has been approached for a comment.

    Firefighters are tackling a fire involving trees, grass and other shrubbery on parkland in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it affected an area about 40mx40m and urged people to avoid the Park Hall area.

    Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in July 2017, has announced his retirement from football.

    The 32-year-old Nigerian has been with Wolves for his entire career, making more than 200 appearances for the club.

    South Staffs Water says it has restored supplies to most homes in Tividale, Sandwell, after a mains burst early this morning.

    It warned customers might notice their water is different in colour to start with, or that there could be variations in water pressure.

    The owner of a fishery, close to the site of the hunt for a 17-year old boy, said the former quarry, being searched, was an 8m-deep (26ft) lake.

    The site known as Blue Pool is situated adjacent to Bishops Bowl Lakes, and not part of the fisheries, between Bishop's Itchington and Deppers Bridge.

    Searches by specialist water rescue teams are expected to continue throughout the day, said Warwickshire Police.

    Officers appealed for anyone in the area at the time to come forward.

    Training West Midlands Police officers specifically how to deal with acid attacks should be "seriously considered" by the force, the assistant police and crime commissioner says.
