  2. Man seriously injured in microlight crashpublished at 07:07 British Summer Time 8 August 2018

    A man has been seriously injured when a microlight came down in a field in Warwickshire.

    Warwickshire Police said the aircraft, which was carrying one man, came down in Charity Farm in Baxterley near Atherstone just before 18:37 on Tuesday.

    Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews cut the man free from the aircraft after it flew into a fence and flipped over.

    Police said the man suffered serious injuries to his arms, legs and head and was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

  9. Woman who died in horse drawn carriage crash namedpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 7 August 2018

    The woman who died in a crash involving a horse drawn carriage has been named by police.

    Valerie Ann Gilbert, 60, from Stone was a passenger in the carriage which was being pulled by a single horse travelling towards Stone on Uttoxeter Road at Hilderstone on Sunday afternoon.

    A 55-year-old man who was the carriage driver was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries.

    Mostly dry through this evening and overnight; just a very small chance of a shower, with lows of 16C (61°F).

    Tomorrow there will be a cooler, fresher feel, and there's even the chance of an isolated shower.

    The burnt out shells of several cars can be seen in a car park close to HMP Birmingham where two masked men with a gun made off in a vehicle.

    A hole in the fence is also visible at the Winson Green Prison.

    Two masked men who were "armed with a firearm" fled from outside the prison, police said.

    West Midlands Fire Service said they were called at 13:24.

    Two fire engine crews were sent to the fire, which involved "a number of cars", a spokesman said.

    Due to a fire between Wolverhampton and Shifnal, West Midlands Railway services are being severely delayed and disrupted.

    The railway company says, external replacement road transport is being ordered for passengers travelling between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton as a consequence.

    All trains at Shifnal are blocked.
