    A lorry driver has been left with serious injuries after his vehicle was involved in a crash with a van in Birmingham this morning.

    Emergency services were called to Pershore Road South just after 06:30 where the man in his 40s was treated for multiple injuries before being taken to hospital.

    The driver of the van was treated for minor injuries, before being discharged at the scene, said the ambulance service.

    Herefordshire Council says the Hampton Court Bridge, which carries the A417 over the River Lugg, north of Hereford, was starting to show signs of decline.

    Train passengers planning to use Northern rail services through Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow are being warned to check the timetable due to strikes., external

    Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) members plan to walk out again on 1 September as well as several dates later in the month.

    It's due to their ongoing dispute about the role of guards. The union says passenger safety will be put at risk, but train operators dispute this.

    Northern has called the strikes "disappointing and frustrating", saying it had proposed and entered into a joint working party with RMT.

    An Islamic State fanatic who plotted to kill Theresa May in a suicide attack, is due to be sentenced today at the Old Bailey.

    Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman, 21, originally from Walsall, planned to bomb the gates of 10 Downing Street, kill guards and then attack Theresa May with a knife or gun.

    Rahman claimed he had been set up by security services online, but a jury rejected his explanation and convicted him of preparing acts of terrorism.

    A woman's been flown to hospital after fire crews cut her free from a crash., external

    Her car was in a collision with a tractor at the junction of the B5063 and B4397 near to Wem, Shropshire, with the ambulance service saying it suffered significant damage.

    It said that the woman, in her 30s, had suffered an injury to her arm and cuts to her face.

    A teenager, who was a passenger in the car, was treated at the scene for hip pain and cuts to his arm.

    Worcestershire will be hoping they can bowl themselves to victory over Lancashire today in the County Championship Division One.

    After day two, the Pears were bowled out in their second innings for 252, leaving their opponents a target of 314 to win. They'll resume on 8-0.

    While in Division Two, Warwickshire will be looking to keep piling the pressure on to Glamorgan as they resume on 445-8.

    A consultation ends today, external designed to promote "a sense of belonging and trust" in "super diverse" Birmingham.

    In some areas of the city, 80% of people describe themselves as white British, but in a handful of others, ethnic minorities account for as much as 90%.

    Across the city as a whole, 42% of the population is made up of ethnic minorities, with almost 200 countries represented.

    The city council said Birmingham was soon to become "a majority minority city" with more than 60% of the under-18 population now from a non-white British background.

    It said this provided cultural and even trading benefits, but also challenges to ensure communities come together and reduce segregation.

    In its green paper released in May, external, the local authority said poverty, "economic inequality" and discrimination were major challenges.

    They got their first victory of the season in the League Cup this week and head to West Ham tomorrow having held last year's champions, Manchester City, to a draw.

    The Godiva Festival begins today, the first since Coventry was announced City of Culture winners for 2021.

    The family music event is thought to be one of the biggest free festivals in Europe.

    Final preparations are being made at the War Memorial park.

    Headliners include Professor Green and Ronan Keating.

    Officers investigating a fatal crash in Walsall are appealing for help in locating a vehicle involved in the collision.

    Liam Ball, 17, died on 2 August when the Volkswagen Golf in which he was travelling struck parked cars in Weston Street, Walsall.

    A 16-year-old boy has admitted causing the death by dangerous driving.

    Police are trying to find a Volkswagen Touran, which is believed to have been involved in the circumstances leading up to the collision.

    They've been searching for a replacement for Keith Wyness who was suspended in June and is now suing the club.

    He'll take over the day-to-day running of the club with immediate effect and he'll be a minority investor.

    A 14-year-old boy from Nuneaton has been cautioned for arson after admitting to starting five fires in grassland around Bedworth, police said. , external

    The fire service was called to an area near Moat Farm Drive four times on the 8 August to put out fires that had been deliberately started.

    The boy also admitted starting a fire at a nature reserve a few days later.

    Police say this reckless behaviour could easily have caused damage to people or property.

    Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland says Saido Berahino is back to his best, ahead of tomorrow's return to The Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion.
