Specialist cleaners for Lady Godiva statuepublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 11 September 2018
Specialist cleaners have been called in to help advise council workers on how to remove graffiti from a statue.
Coventry City Council leader George Duggins said he's "angry" and "disappointed" that the "respected symbol of our city", Lady Godiva, has been defaced.
Council crews worked over the weekend to clean the graffiti which is "proving very difficult to remove", he said.
The statue, in Broadgate, was put up in 1949. Lady Godiva, the wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia, reportedly rode naked around the city in a bid to get her husband to reduce taxes in the 11th Century.
More graffiti was discovered on the statue on Tuesday morning.
“We are looking at CCTV footage and will be passing this to the police.”
