  18. Rise in city fly-tipping discussedpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Local Democracy Reporting Service
    Tom Davis

A report has questioned whether savings made on waste collections have contributed to a rise in fly-tipping in Coventry over the last 12 months.

    Coventry City CouncilImage source, Google

Coventry City Council said it particularly noted a rise in the dumping of white goods.

A report due before city councillors, external on Wednesday references the loss of 10 officers from the service which previously covered fly-tipping. It was amalgamated with the street enforcement team in 2016.

Savings of £2.5m were made on waste collections, street cleansing and enforcement, the report says, with the effects of these savings still being absorbed by the relevant services.

    Quote Message

The degree to which the saving programmes have increased fly-tipping in the city is difficult to quantify against a back drop of increased fly-tipping nationally. Although austerity programmes to save money here and elsewhere in the country will almost certainly have had an effect."
