    A four-year-old boy with a rare form of leukaemia has been invited to be the AFC Telford United mascot for their FA Cup tie this weekend.

    Zac Oliver from Broseley does not meet NHS criteria for an experimental treatment and his family hopes to raise £500,000 in seven weeks so he can go to Philadelphia to receive care.

    The golden age of steam returns to railway lines in the West Midlands today as a new operator starts running trains.

    Publicly-owned Vintage Trains is one of only a handful of companies to be given permission to run steam trains on the mainline.

    It said the first trips were still in the planning stage but likely to open to the public in the autumn from the Great Western Railway steam depot at Tyseley in Birmingham.

    Alcohol-free zones banning street drinking have been introduced in Worcester.

    The council has enacted a Public Spaces Protection Order which means that in certain areas across the city, anyone found drinking outside the confines of licensed premises could receive an on-the-spot fine of £70.

    If prosecuted, that could increase to as much as £1,000.

    The move follows a consultation exercise earlier this year.

    Three men have been arrested after raids in Stafford this morning to disrupt the trade in the synthetic drug known as Monkey Dust, police say.

    Four flats in Pennycroft Court were searched in the early hours and a quantity of drugs was discovered.

    The three men, local and aged between 20 and 40, have all been detained on suspicion of drugs offences.

    Police say they've seized fake goods in Shropshire worth £50,000.

    The West Mercia force said the items including 400 pairs of trainers and football shirts were spotted when an erratically-driven vehicle was stopped in Hodnet on 13 September.

    The counterfeits also included perfume, hair straighteners and watches.

    A 28-year-old man has been arrested and released on police bail.

    The death of a man at a waste disposal company in Wolverhampton is believed to be a result of an industrial accident, police say.

    Officers were sent to Timmins Waste in Mander Street on Saturday after the 30-year-old failed to return home from work.

    The precise cause of his death remains unexplained, the West Midlands force says.

    The Health and Safety Executive said it was "supporting police with their investigation".

    The site has been secured by police while enquiries continue.

    Five supporters have been given football banning orders after one Port Vale player was elbowed in the jaw during a match against Crewe and a second was pushed.

    Cheshire Police says the violence broke out when four of the five men got on to the pitch at Crewe after the Alex equalised in the 93rd minute of the derby game on Easter Monday last season.

    The group - subjected to banning orders spanning between three and five years - is believed to include fans of both clubs.

    Worcestershire have got off to a bad start against Essex at Chelmsford, having lost their first six wickets for just 32 runs.

    Worcester has been rated the happiest city in the UK; rising from fourth place in last year's rankings.

    The study, external by the personal finance firm Provident also rated the city among the top five in the country for being welcoming, friendly and safe.
