    The Duke of Cambridge will start his visit to the region today at the University of Birmingham, where he will attend a graduation ceremony for SkillForce, external students.

    He will then move on to Acorns Children's Hospice in Selly Oak.

    Acorns Ambassadors Bradley Addison and Assya Shabir will be showing Prince William around the facilities, which will be the "absolute highlight" of the charity’s 30th anniversary year, it said.

    Police are set to crack down on driving offences from the top deck of buses.

    The West Midlands force hopes the measure will allow officers a perfect view of those motorists using mobile phones at the wheel.

    Under Operation Top Deck, officers are set to film offenders.

    Bus passengers are also being urged to supply their own video evidence of drivers breaking the law.

    Shrewsbury Town's captain Mat Sadler says he is "buzzing" to have given fans their first league victory of the season.

    They beat Southend 2-0 at the weekend to climb out of the relegation places.

    Shrewsbury travel to Scunthorpe next weekend and Sadler went on to say the supporters' backing had kept up confidence during a winless run.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding after a 24-year-old suffered a punctured lung when he was stabbed three times.

    The attack happened in Tamworth Road, Brownhills, on 11 August, police said.

    The 33-year-old suspect from Erdington has been released pending further investigation.

    A draw would be enough to send the Bears back up at their first attempt and they could clinch the title with a win, if Kent fail to beat Glamorgan.

    Warwickshire, relegated in 2017, go into the match 12 points clear of second-place Kent, with only two rounds of fixtures remaining.

    A "serious" crash involving a motorbike is causing congestion on roads around Birmingham city centre.

    One lane is blocked on the A38 St Chad's Queensway with congestion to Bristol Street and back along the Bristol Road.

    Some buses have been caught in the queues and are reporting delays of up to an hour.

    Private healthcare firm Spire Healthcare Group has told the BBC it has completed compensation payouts to victims of rogue surgeon Ian Paterson.

    Spire, a firm which runs private hospitals where Paterson held clinics, had paid around £27m into a fund to recompense victims of the disgraced breast surgeon.

    "That is largely closed in terms of compensation," chief executive Justin Ash told BBC Radio Four's Today programme.

    During Paterson's criminal trial, a court heard from nine women and one man who were treated at Little Aston and Parkway Hospitals in the West Midlands between 1997 and 2011.

    Two men have been injured in a shooting in Coventry, police say.

    Officers were called to Far Gosford Street in the city at about 23:30 on Monday.

    A short time later, the West Midlands force said, two men aged 18 and 21 attended hospital with gunshot injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

    An area of the street remains cordoned off this morning.

    No-one has been arrested.

    A six-year-old boy from Nuneaton has been identified as one of just 140 people in the world with a rare genetic disorder.

    Daniel Harrison has the Kat6A gene and his symptoms include vision impairment, chronic lung problems, and mobility difficulties.

    It was identified after he and his parents had their entire genome mapped as part of the Genome 100,000 project. , external

    A "disgusting act" in which four geese are thought to have suffered broken wings is being investigated by police in Birmingham.

    Officers tweeted , externalthey were called to Bordesley Green last night where they found the injured animals - believed to have been stolen by "a group of males".

    Police said the culprits were not at the scene when they arrived, but believed they knew the identity of one suspect.

    The RSPCA has been contacted, police added.

    The Duke of Cambridge is due to unveil a statue honouring war hero Frank Foley in Stourbridge today.

    The British spy saved more than 10,000 people from persecution in Nazi Germany during World War Two.

    Prince William is set to unveil the statue in Mary Stevens Park near where Mr Foley lived during his retirement. He died in 1958.

    A council leader has denied claims the authority is in financial difficulty.

    Conservative councillor Peter Nutting refuted comments from opposition members that Shropshire Council could face the same troubles as cash-strapped Northamptonshire County Council.

    That authority had to approve massive cuts to jobs and services last month, in a bid to tackle a £70m funding shortfall.

    This week, Shropshire Council predicted it would overspend by £6.8m for 2018/19 and Labour opponents called the situation “potentially disastrous”.

    But while Mr Nutting admitted this year would not be "as easy" as 2017/18, he said he was "confident" the authority would "balance its books” in the next two to three years.
